Isn't it nice being popular?

It's funny, I guess a lot more people are starting to use automatic facebook friend adders to market to... OR... I am just amazingly popular.

I have people (females) I have never heard of with photo shoots contacting me, actors such as Robert Downey Jr (Iron Man) that apparently want to be my friend (although for this particular guy, he has a different alias)... I guess I am just really popular everyone wanting to be my friend.

I'm curious, how many friend requests do you get per day? Do you add them (social ego boost?) Or send them a marketing message back?

I'd be happy to be Iron Man's friend...

I like it on Twitter where the account says "Verified."

I pretty much just stay off Facebook, though I don't know how long I'll be able to get away with that. I need to create a business page for my site, but I don't really know how profitable that would be, time-wise and money-wise.

However, I will say that for my article Facebook account (which was mostly automated to auto-post), which I used for some article marketing, I got several friend requests from real, non-celebrity, non-hooker style people. They seemed genuinely interested in reading my articles.

Ahh so that's why I've been getting at least 5 random add requests daily on Facebook... I had no idea there were automatic friend adders like in Twitter.

At first I was tempted to add these strangers to boost my friend count, at my age, popularity is EVERYTHING... but then I wasn't comfortable with the fact that these people will have access to me... I know there's the limit profile view thing but I felt I'd rather not have them at all.

So I just ignore... well I used to until I got tired and just blocked off Facebook... I may go on it someday again... but not for now. I've got better things to do.

Besides the friends I want to keep in touch with are just a call away

I find this fascinating that many of the responses indicate little thrill over Facebook. I always suspected this but thought I was the 'odd-man-out'. It's refreshing to see that others (besides my grandmother) find Facebook to be of limited value or interest in one's day-to-day life.

I think facebook for some can be nice for 'checking out' girls/guy you like, etc, in highschool/university/etc, or looking up old flames to see what they are up to 10-15 years later... Kind of basically just like a 'live' yearbook.

But if you aren't using it for that/those purposes, then there isn't too much value. (Although facebook has made a big effort to do so simply by adding applications/games, etc, to make it a bit of a more interactive platform).
