Great Feedback for WiredPRNews

Hi, I'm a new member here though I've been lurking for months. My initial purpose for visiting the Warrior forum was to find advice on press release distribution. My business needs are somewhat different from most people's here-- we have a brick and mortar business with a physical product that right now is targeted to agriculture and industry. Our marketing budget is very small, though, so I've come here to pick up some tricks for getting attention on a shoestring.

There's been a lot of back and forth in threads about which services are the best, so I just wanted to share my experience in case it helps anyone else. I started out with PRLog, which seems to be the most highly recommended free service around here. It has been pretty helpful in getting back links, although for actual press coverage (which, again, for my purposes, I need) there's been nothing from there; all the press coverage I got I did myself manually.

I want to try out PRNewswire's premium service (the one that promises distribution to the AP) but it's expensive so I'm holding off on that until I have really big news.

That being said, I decided to try WiredPRNews, which I haven't seen much about on here. For $24.95 they promise distribution to some serious news outlets. I gave it a shot and submitted a release through them Tuesday night.

I'm thrilled to report that yesterday my release was picked up by Boston.com (this is the website for the Boston Globe and claims a readership of 5 million). It was a slow news day, and in my opinion, because of some internal issues my company has to iron out, this release was one of the least interesting I've written. I can't wait to try it again next week when we have a product launch to report that ties in to a scary health study and is seasonably appropriate.

I don't know if others will have the same experience-- my product is genuinely unique, and I was a freelance journalist for years so I do know how to write an attention-getting release. However, this was a pretty incredible bang-for-my-buck so I thought I'd share it in case it helps anyone.
