Hey,

Well for the first time ever i have created my own website all on my own so i am pretty excited to see how it does. I also know that the graphics are pretty shitty but besides that what do you guys think. ( anyone who wants to help me out with making better graphics for free i would greatly appreciate it)

Also if you notice anything wrong please let me know so that i can fix it

Such as spelling, links not working, Ad sense not showing up on pages....

Thank you,

Congratulations on taking action and building your very first site. That is awesome.

The only mistake I can see you made on the site is at the very bottom. There is a link that looks like you wanted it to be a keyword, but is just a dummy link.

Once you fix that one little mistake it appears that you have built a very functional website.

Congratulations on taking action. You are actually closer than most to being successful online.

    Good job Eric!

Your site looks good except for the
    small error that Shannon said.

    Some constructive criticism:

    - Domain does not match the topic of the site
    - The design does not work well in Firefox, seems scattered and messy.

    Content is good though.

10 points for trying - you are on your way to success with a few tweaks

  • Looks good, but when I read it, it reminds me more of a press-release, is that what you're aiming for? or is there more, I didn't see any links to other pages, just ads.

Is this type of ADSENSE placement on a page good?

(rectangle at the TOP LEFT)- is it a good adsense placement to get a good clickthrough rate people.

Hi - well done - I remember the excitement of my first website - its not that long ago.

There's a pic down the botton that isnt showing up - "ontarget_05.jpg"

Also I run internet explorer & your side bar is waaaaayyyyyy over on the right hand side, and the footer is all skewed up.

Why dont you try getting a free golf web template for this & see if that runs a bit better for you. Here's a couple for you (they're not mine - just thought I'd find a couple for you)...

Thank you for those they will help alot

So Top left hand placement of rectangle is best for conversion, but.... the page doesnt look as attractive as if the ads were enbedded through out the article (banner ads eg), so i guess that shows with a website the most attractive page isnt always the one that converts the best, correct people?

      Congrats!

Getting that first site up is quite an accomplishment! Give yourself a pat on the back and stay with it.

Don't beat yourself up over the criticism. It's constructive and good advice. We all have to go through the learning curve. At least you're in the game.

I can not get your site to come up complete and clean in either IE or FireFox and I agree you need to rethink what you should have for a domain name.

There are many sites where you can get some free templates and some help with websites. I have no connection to these sites, but they're worth looking at. Like : freewebtemplates and killersites

      To your success,
      Janet

PS: I love the red color.

    Hi Eric

It's good that you have taken action..WELL DONE! MOST just talk about it, but you're actually doing it....BUT I'm sorry your site looks bad..and I'm not kidding...just start all over again please.

Oh I'm talking design wise...I havent read your info...

To be more specific...your logo is bad, your domain doesn't even have the word "golf" in it, your layout looks like it is missing/doesn't join up.
Your navigation bar is also out of place, your adsense is out of place..and your text is all bold.

Please don't think I'm, trying to be mean, I'm just trying to help you here, I'm a designer (so I'm not just talking out of my ass).

    You have 3 options here:

    - Either try again
    - Or pay a designer to make one
    - Or download a template

    Good luck with it.

    Ernie.

Congrats on getting your first site up. That's always a relief and milestone.

A few thoughts on the layout:
    1. Domain and topic don't match so you need a new URL
    2. Too much text on front page - you make the reader work. Readers don't want to work that much, feels like you are talking AT them rather than with them. Consider segmenting into different topics and providing links to the topics or just cut the text way back
    3. Subsequent pages have adsense above the fold and content below the fold. Makes it look like you are only interested in selling and not the content. Focus on the content.
    4. Contact Us link didn't work
    5. Image of cute girl seems to come from site unrelated to yours. Does Nancy know you are using her pic?

You'll get there. Keep swinging at the ball!

Congrats on the effort -thats the first step and its always the hardest - putting up your first web site.

But you won't make any money with this site - there are many things that need to be fixed.
    1. The site is not rendering properly (displaying) in fire fox and IE so the basic struture needs to change.
    2. the large Adsense box at the top screams adsense garbage site (you know the cookie cutter adsense sites that Google is trying to weed out because they usually don't have useful content?) Consider changing that to a leaderboard style ad that goes accross the top of the page instead. Then more of the content will be above the fold so people have something to read.
    3. The red color is too harsh and it doesn't work having black text on the red. Either change the red to something softer and/or change the text to white.
    4. The articles are different fonts and font sizes - Its obvious to me that you cut and pasted your articles from another html page and that code was transfered along with the article copy when you pasted to the new page. Anytime you paste material you have copied from another html or php page - paste it into a note pad (not Word) file and then copy from there and past onto your new html page. Using note pad will "wash" away the code you picked up from the orginal page. You will probably have to fix the paragraphs but it save fighting with unwanted code.
    5. pictures pictures, pictures - you need stuff on there that is visually pleasing - right now its nothing but text.
I'm sure this was a lot of work and probably more work then it need to be. Install Wordpress and transfer your content over. You will be glad you did.

Don't get discouraged with the comments. You have your first build out of the way now its time to look at it with a critical eye and build either the next one or redesign this one.

    Hope this helps
