Creating Review Websites... is it worth it :)

Hi,

Look, I have been toying around with Internet marketing, and now I'm trying to build a thriving community in a specific niche, (and copy this to other niches). Basically building a website where people give reviews about something, a business/service that people are looking for. like say a hairdresser for example.

We know how to build traffic, offer affiliate products to monetize it, and just wondering if anyone has tried this model before and does it work?

I know there are review websites making a fortune, and it's obviously work in setting it up.

Any feedback before we invest months of work. Any feedback greatly appreciate.

There is no reason it cannot work.
It seems you will want to localize it for each visitor. (country, state, city, etc... craigslist style perhaps)
That should be easy enough though.

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, I agree, it has to be about localization. We where thinking of creating of for Australia Market, with seperate states, then try to go global, but that will be down the track.

We r thinking of having a Fackbook style bit for it, where people can talk to each other, form groups etc.

We are looking at some of the best review websites for ideas.

I'm thinking I would like to build a community, and of course it needs to attract ppl and give them what they need.

I'm hoping that the hard work in building it will pay of, and create $1000's per month, not $10's from ads.

Tip: never waste time and money creating review site for a product that is already a month old on the internet, instead use articles, squidoo and hub pages

Thanks for your advice. I can imagine what you are doing can work a treat.

We are not really reviewing products though.... It's more like, OK, I need a Haircut, and I'm new in town, where do I go, does anyone recommend a hairdresser. So the demand and service will always be there.

I was thinking of creating these portals, eg. "Haridresser reviews" (not my niche, but example) and try to monatise from it later. I have the skills to build a community, I'm just not 100% sure how much money I can make from it.

      Bit of a gamble.

I like your idea on Squidoo and hub pages... I'll have to explore squidoo for sure, as I'm not even sure what its for.

      Thanks!!! Much appreciate.

If you are doing legit reviews, then you need to really test out what you are reviewing, especially if you want real followers. 5 of 5 stars for every product makes your site an immoral affiliate site and nothing more. Throwing a review up on a product that you have never tried is the type of thing that ruins the Internet and your reputation.

Ok, with the Review website, People go to the website and leave their reviews. Not me. So if you are looking for a Hairdresser for example in your town, you'll see a list of all their haridresses with Reviews left by real people.

One piece of advice that I would give you given the type of site you are going to work on. Learn Drupal - it is the most amazing and powerful website infrastructure around and it's FREE.

In my opinion, for that type of site, Drupal is the way to go.

Thanks for your advice. It's so true, and readers are much wiser now than ever, especially the new generation.
