is building landing pages a requirement?

I'm new and struggling with building LP's or any simple site for that matter.

Do you guys build your own or outsource them?

If you're a nen-techie and learned how to do it, please share how long it took and where you learned?

I have been surfing youtube "how to..." but I find the videos pretty random and still assuming some previous knowledge, vocabulary, and navigation skills to get everything set up. It's not really working for me.

Is this ultimately a skill I should consider "required learning"

thx

start by learning html HTML Tutorial. You dont "NEED" it but if youre going to be taking internet marketing seriously its best to learn it. That being said there are alot of "squeezepage" generators out there that you could use while learning html. Also regarding how long it took me..it took me about 2 days to get the "hang" of basic html (throwing up basic websites) but Im still learning to this very day. However, the speed that I pick up things (or anyone else for that matter) is totally irrelevent to how fast youll be going to pick things up. Just use wordpress if youre a noob, its very beginner friendly and very flexible. Hope that helps some.

If you have problem with landing pages you should try wordpress. Search for "wordpress landing page template, wordpress squeeze page template". You will find that there is a lot of landing page templates you can use. Why I suggest wordpress? Because of one single reason... it is simple to manage and you don't have to spend week to create simple landing pages. All you have to do is add your content into template.

    • Hi

In addition to the excellent advice already given I would also add that you can reduce the need for HTML skills (note I didn't say eliminate!), by getting hold of some of the free landing page templates that are out there (most JV Giveaway events will normally have someone giving away free templates). In this way you are at least not starting from scratch.

I don't know what your strategy is, however many MRR (Master Resale Right) ot PLR (Private Label Right) products you can purchase to sell on will come with their own Landing/Squeeze page. This will mean the amount of work is reduced even further.

      I hope this has helped.

      regards
      Andy

You are getting some nice advices here on how to create a landing/squeeze page. It's not a requirement, but it's definitely recommended to have one if you are taking IM very seriously and if you want to build a long-term business. You should really have one to build your list, as list building should also be the number 1 priority online.

Your list will be your asset in the future, so start building your list and you will never regret doing it once you have thousands of subscribers in your list.

You are getting lots of sound advice in this thread. Certainly as the comment above says, building a list is important if you are looking to build a long term business.

Also all this information is useless unless YOU DO SOMETHING WITH IT!!

This is the most important part.

There are plenty of free templates out there. Get one and just modify it a little to adjust it to your needs. Doing so is not difficult at all, specially using a WYSWYG editor (Cofee Cup is an excellent free one). If you need to change any HTML go to www.w3schools.com and learn a little.

I might be wrong but I don't think "landing page" is a good term to determine the technicalities involved. For me a landing page is where I land (i.e. arrive) after clicking a link in an ad or clicking on a banner etc.

    The page itself could be:
    - a page with a content that is pre-selling something
    - a squeeze page for collecting subscribers to your list
    - a sales page

So, unless you clarify what is it that we are talking about, you will not get any meaningful answer.

OK use HTML optimized for SEO as Google loves straight HTML in landing pages. I have learned much by trial and error. Create several copies of your landing page. Test them to see your conversions.

Right now I am getting on some of my pages 4% which is low, but the aff agreement forces me to use a tiny [BUY] button that is hard to see. The [BUY] button should be large and gaudy colored like red or orange.

I have found that you need more than a picture and a price. Create lots of text for your body copy. It should explain all the benefits of your product or service.

Finally, end with a strong call to action like - ON SALE 50% OFF this week only, so call now!

    It's pretty much mandatory, Yes.

Landing pages are essential for building a list which
    is ULTRA IMPORTANT.

So, either hire someone and outsource it or learn
creating them. Even the most basic ones will do.

I am not techie, but I learned to work with templates and
Dreamweaver. Maybe you do it too...

The best way to do this is to just get in touch with the owner of a site that you want to emulate and take it from there.

With so many different options available it's easy to get confused, but here's the basic requirements you will need.

    #1 Your own domain
    #2 Hosting
#3 FTP software to upload files from your computer onto your websits
    #4 A html editor
#5 Autoresponder to provide you with code that you copy and paste into your html to generate the all important opt-in box.

On top of that you will need a lead magnet that people will want enough that they will give you their email address.

Once you get used to doing this it's actually easier to edit a webpage than it is to navigate your way around programmes like powerpoint, word, & excel.

Andrew gave you a good list of the "tools" you will need. Yes, you can always outsource having webpages and websites made, but knowing how to build sites is pretty much essential to IM

The more you know about it, the easier it will be to communicate to anyone building sites for you. And should you ever want to quickly make a change on one of your sites, knowing how to build sites is a must.

Others have mentioned a webdesign program called Nvu. The latest version of Nvu is called KomPozer. KomPozer fixes a bug in Nvu which causes computers to lock up. There is an excellent set of tutorials for it at thesitewizard (dot) com I am not an affiliate, don't even know the guy.

His tutorials for KomPozer/Nvu are located on the left-hand side of his landing page, about half way down the page.

Years ago, before there were web design programs I bought an "HTML For Dummies" book, learned enough to be dangerous, and built several sites by coding in Windows Notepad. AAAARRRRggghh. Coders are a very special group of people. It drove me wacko. The good part about that is I can now look at a page of HTML and have a bit of an idea what is happening. Sometimes it's a small bit.

Several years ago I bought Dreamweaver, read a book (home study course) and immediately decided to take classes at a local community college. That was a big help. Dreamweaver is complex, and capable of creating complex websites. I find I don't use much more than about a third of its capabilities.

But is sure is nice to be able to go make changes whenever I wish.

It does take time. That's okay. You didn't learn to read English in a day, and learning to build websites is a whole bunch easier.

Just keep at it. You'll get there.

The more you do IM, the more you'll grow a collection of squeeze page templates and other page templates. You'll have a ton of wordpress themes and so on.

But, you do need to learn some html and preferably how to setup a site. This will eventually mean learning about servers, FTP, uploading, etc.

It can be daunting at first...but a little practice (and a lot of googling) and you'll get there.

Land pages are a way of building your list, and a popular way too.

You should consider building them to get your list started, and testing many designs.

    Some convert better than others.
