Question to video sellers about format

Since I have never sold downloadable videos, here is a quick question for those that are selling videos (and also for those buying them!):

What is the optimal format for videos to be sold in zipped files? Not streaming videos on my site but for downloading and viewing them on your own computer.

Thanks in advance, Warriors!

    Hey Istvan

I always put videos into .m4v format for people to download. It's a nice compromise between quality and compression and works on just about any movie software, whether windows or mac.

If your audience has a number of Mac users in it I'd advise staying away from .avi and .wmv formats. Non techie Mac users will have some issues playing those files.

I agree with Paul. Mp4 and flv formats are probably the best combination of quality to size.

Avi files will be pretty big by comparison.

I use .wmv for my audience since most people will be able to play them on windows media player.
