Protecting The Newbies

Hello folks

I'm in the process of writing a short free report aimed at new people coming online.

After seeing so many absolutely awful products being launched this year I just felt the need to do something about it, also, judging by my own support desks and from other marketers feedback - there seems to be an increase of new people coming online and looking to start some kind of IM business.

The purpose of the report is to give them some simple guidelines on how to avoid getting scammed online and what they can do to protect themselves from making bad purchases.

I've already made a start and written a section on keeping receipts and bookmarking sales pages for future reference etc but I'd just like to get some feedback and ideas from you guys on what else I could include in the report.

There was an excellent thread on this very subject not so long ago but I can't for the life of me find it now.

Any feedback would be most welcome

Talk to them about using Google to search for the product review then also using forums by going to the forums in that product niche and ask people questions about the product to really be sure of what he is buying.

      Hope this helps?
      Hi

Thanks for your reply but the only problem with that is that it's next to impossible to find an unbiased review online that isn't just some affiliate promoting the product.

And if you did find one, you wouldn't believe it.

Look, assume I'm not an idiot.

I write an unbiased review of a product.

People read my review and go buy that product.

The product has an affiliate program.

I could get paid for those people who buy the product.

All I have to do is fill out a form and change a link.

        Why wouldn't I?

Wouldn't I pretty much have to be... well... stupid?

Ok, so YOU may write an unbiased review.....many others won't and will just submit reviews to make a sale.

All I'm saying is that going by reviews online isn't really a good guide when thinking of making a purchase.

This isn't about me. This is about anyone. Why would anybody that has two brain cells to rub together NOT join the affiliate program for a product he's reviewed on the internet?

First off I think it's important to stress the need for an online education. Encourage newbies to find a course that will teach them the basics and avoid the 'make a billion in 2 days' kind of crap.

If you use common sense it's just not that easy to get scammed. Another thing is that if they purchase a product through a reputable company like Clickbank, they are pretty safe if they need to get a refund on a substandard product.

Maybe part of the learning curve is to make some mistakes along the way.
In any field of endeavour if it was easy everyone would be doing it.
I started selling on the Internet around 4 years and have grown a reasonably successfull business and whilst I made many mistakes I did not succumb to any of the so called get rich quick schemes often advertised.
The only rule or guidance Newbies need is to remember the adage
"If it sounds to good to be true then it usually is "

Writing such a book (I've done it before), will cause many of your readers to:

      1. Constantly ask you for assistance (never giving back - they are new and will most likely give up)
      2. Blame you for not protecting them more. (If they get in trouble on line they will blame you because you didn't mention it in your book).

I know it sounds harsh what I'm saying but you are really going to cause more harm for yourself than good.

But I do hope it goes well for you.
It sounds like you've had a bad experience with the noobs.

I can't really blame you for feeling frustrated with them......I know what they are like as I handle several support desks and they can be quite challenging at times.

This just comes with the territory.

But there are a percentage of them who are genuinley interested and willing to put the effort in to make a go of things and all they need is some genuine direction.

Your general intent is laudable, but, IMO, keeping receipts and bookmarking sales pages would probably be of limited use. Most reputable sellers (and certainly every seller using Clickbank) will honor a refund request. The dishonest vendors aren't likely to worry about whether the buyer has kept a note of the sales page.

More useful to any newcomers online would be the advice to decide on a clear plan. There are a multitude of ways to make a living on the internet; but anyone venturing online with just some vague idea of making money is going to be more vulnerable to the scam artists and their shiny objects.

I'd stress in your report the importance of choosing a particular plan or business strategy that feels the most comfortable - perhaps relating to some offline experience, skill or interest - and researching that model in depth before purchasing any product.

That way, they'd be able to identify the experts and the authority resources in that field, making it much more likely that any buying decision would be an informed one.
