WARRIORS: The BEST IM Mentor?

Hey Warriors,

After reading the stories of several successful Internet Marketers, I couldn't help but notice a common trait....

All of them at some point, whether it was in the beginning, the middle or the end, met a successful mentor who took them to the next level.

I know there are several types of mentors, but I will mention just two:

1.There are those who know their stuff, and will share with you their secrets, but will expect you to extract principles, and go do your thing. They will give you free access to the materials they sell, but they are not necessarily going to take interest in your project, or pick your brain to extract the best way forward.

2. Then, you have another category of mentors who also know their stuff, but don't really care about bragging to you about how much success they have achieved. They get a kick instead from taking you from where you are, and guide you step by step till you are making at least 4-5 figures per month.

So, with that said, please share with us the best Internet Marketing mentors that you know of.

Richard

I'm not trying to kiss any a** here, but the most valuable things I have learned about marketing on the Internet have come from Allen Says and Paul Myers.

That is why I always try to give back as much as I take in this forum.

Personally the one person whose reports I read actually changed my business model forever.
That person is none other than Bryan Kumar and Allen Says. Most of their reports can be found in the War Room and the strategies that they cover are definitely worth looking at.

I think the best answer to that question
could only be given after you decide what you
want to do as an Internet Marketer.

I have no idea how many ways there are to make
money online, but you know as well as I do there
        are many.

Nobody can be excellent at them all.

I would recommend picking ONE way to make money.

Find the best mentor you can after you make that choice.

        Do nothing else.

Only subscribe to emails that have something
to do with what you are doing.

Only read and look for info on the Warrior
forum that has to do with what you are doing.

Only buy WSO's that are about what you are doing.

Resist all temptation to do something else.

          Well said Blase.

Coming to think about it, Internet Marketing is as vast as the field of Medecine (well maybe not completely....but you get the point).

There are so many different orientations that you can take in medecine, but before doing your specialization, you need foundational training. This is exactly what all medecine students have to undergo before branching off to their various specializations.

Likewise, in Internet marketing, I believe there are also basic things you need to know about Marketing as a whole. This will in turn determine the business model you want to focus on.

And like you rightly said....FOCUS is indispensable to success!!

          Richard

          Brilliant advice!!

Every newbie should read this - for me this was the hardest part of IM - stick to one model and stop chasing "the pot of gold at the end of the next promo mail". My first $$$ online came when I decided to follow one model, put in an insane amount of hours, ignore all the sales pitches in my inbox (except when it was applicable to my model) and only visited the WF Sunday evenings for an hour to catch up with the latest buzz.

I have learned the most by networking with other people (and tons of testing). And I'm not talking those who "teach", but rather those who "do". You know, the kind of people you never see posting anything on forums. Hint - go to big industry events, there's loads of them there.

There are four main "stages" that a lot of people go through:

learning -> trying to catch up -> up to date -> creating their own "markets" and starting new "trends".

Most never transition from #3 to #4.

I have read many reports and watched many videos to learn enough about IM to start making some decent money online. However, I have never had a mentor, somebody offering me 1-on-1 coaching, and now I'm doing very well online.

I think that it's possible (maybe harder, but still possible) to figure things out without a amentor. It's all about being persistent and focused.

I agree a mentor whom you can reach to ask questions can be very handy..

Guys like Jeff Johnson, mike Filsaime and others they offer coaching program, but they are too expensive and also you get to reach only their support staff and not them personally.

I personally am interested in a mastermind group organized by some of the IM folks where you can directly approach them.

Most people start with blazing fires, and can lift the heaviest mountain if you ask them to. The one thing that I have noticed that kills mentor-mentoree relationships is lack of communication or responsiveness from either the mentor or the mentored.

Many a times, the mentored get stuck on a problem or a really minor detail. If this is not addressed in a timely and caring way, there are seeds of mistrust, discouragement and indifference that are sown. This is true for the mentor, but the same applies to the mentor too.

So, even if you find the right mentor, one must not forget that this is a real relationship, and there needs to be mutual respect on both ends. Just because one person has achieved more success than the other doesn't necessarily make him a better person.

Anyway, I just wanted to point out that the trust and communication that exists between a mentor and his mentoree must built and preserved.

        The best IM mentor?

        My eyes and brain...

You can figure anything out if you put your mind to it...and not just meaning that as a figure of speech. There is enough information out there that you can figure anything out if you do the research and "try."

Problem is most people are afraid to try anything without a specific set of instructions...

I think too many people struggle because they underestimate the power of using their own brain and some focused commitment.

It's easy to think that you need someone else in order to get success, but it's also a recipe for a ready-made excuse if you still don't succeed.

I've had many coaching clients who came to me after already paying many thousands of dollars to 'Gurus' and then still ended up no better off than they were before.

IM is a set of tools and strategies that you use on your business - people seem to think that's the same as having a business.

You don't need a mentor until you've decided what your business is.

I personally have no interest whatsoever in telling someone else what their business should be or how they should run it, so I don't take coaching clients who want to be told what to do.

If you want a system to work - all you need is a quick bit of research and the information readily available in this forum.

If you're stuck in information overload mode and just need to sanity check your ideas - there are plenty of people in this forum that can help with that - just ask around to see who you can trust before taking advice at face value.

Only YOU know what your goals, resources and skills are. So a mentor can share some lessons and resources but no-one else should be the answer to your business.

I may be new to IM, but one thing I've learnt in life is that there are "no shortcuts,
no free meals and no easy money''

If you have the drive and the determination to get something, you will find it...

      Total agreement here.

Another great WaFo post source is John Schwartz, "Zeus66" here on the forum.

Between those two, you should be able to get something off the ground without spending a dime on WSOs or coaching.

Ya know, I'm a fan of Frank Kern.. I just like his style and think he's a good dude.

To be honest, I've personally learned the most from him, but by watching what he does, not by buying his stuff. I think that's massively important, seeing what people actually do and not just what they say.

It's like Hemmingway. You can read the words, but there's that 90% that's unspoken. The hidden "iceberg below the surface", you might say.

I've found Frank's actions to be congruent with what he says and teaches, something I can't say for a lot of other marketers (not all obviously, but a lot).

Different people will give different answers. It all depends on their level at a particular point in time.

A newbie may find those mentors who charge high fees too expensive and advanced for him.

It may therefore make sense to start with an affordable mentor if at all, and build your way up.
