Yes, the problem is that many people don't want to invest the time and effort that it requires to establish and maintain relationships. Building a list takes time...and, in some cases, for a new IM'er...ALOT of time.....and, many people get really turned off by the time element required.

With all due respect (sincerely): I figured that saying "Its a good idea to build a list" was equally as obvious, and could have been followed up with more information, otherwise there are 100 other threads here that will give you the whole plan of action.

Im out before I piss somebody off with my opinion. Im sure the op with over 2k posts has posted some valuable info here... but to me this particualr post is like saying "Hey, you know that wooden table use to be a tree"?

Okay. Sorry Niel. You are right Thomas, perhaps this could get a persons curiosity up to learn more... I was a little disapointed to open a thread that says "Make 1k Today" though and find that a person was saying "dont worry about making money today, build a list instead"

When you get a spam email title like that, and open it, its irritating to you when the content is not relevent to the implied subject matter... not calling this spam but... you shouldnt be surprised when people open it and are a little irritated by the manipulation.

I used to use an auto-responder but got rid of it. So many times you sign up for a "newsletter" then you start getting 3-4 emails a day. Yeah, not thanks, spamming isn't a sport I want to be good at. There's much better ways to MMO. If you're all making money at it, hey, that's great! Whatever pays your bills right?

When I see newsletter and I sign up for it, I am asking for a newsletter and updates, that's what I want, news and updates. If I signed up to receive offers then it's probably something I'm interested in.

This is the most important part of list building. I like to think of it as team building, network building, club building. Anything but the term "list". This helps me mentally to always remember I am not just collecting nameless robots to sucker with the next scheme. I am building a network of like minded friends that I may be able to assist from time to time.

  I doubt that Tina's angry with you at all. I, however, am mildly annoyed. Nearly every post you've made in this forum that I've seen has been snippy, condescending or downright rude. That's fine if there's a good reason, but there usually hasn't been.
  
  When someone displays that pattern consistently over time, they become a drag on the forum's more helpful participants. Take some time and think about that. And if you do it offline (I have no clue if that's the case), consider what impact that might have in other areas of your life.
  
  BTW, when you've given as much to the forum as Neil has, you've earned the right to make a "content slim" post on occasion. And the reminder does help some people.

Is it not the whole purpose of participating in a forum to air out your opinions?
You might agree or disagree with my points of views, but does that necessarily make them invalid? You´re obviously a moderator of this forum. But why can´t you accept the opinions of other people? Let´s have a discussion and share each others points of views. Yours is as valid as mine, or anybody else's. Why do you choose to not accept my point of views. A forum is intended to work as a platform for people to share their opinions, am I right or wrong?

  Agreed. There's the sense of a good mind behind her posts. I really think it's a style thing. Her acceptance of the comments about that style by other members says a lot about her character. She'll learn, and probably end up being one of the more valuable members over time.

  I totally agree with you on this. List building should really be the number 1 priority online. The only way to earn at least $1k in a day is if we have a large customers base. Even if you are a freak in generating traffic, it's still hard to earn thousands of dollars in one day without a list.
  
  I definitely advice anyone, especially the newbies, to start building your list. Be very serious on it, because that's the only way to build a long-term business. If you don't have a list, you are not building a long-term, stable business.

  There are many ways of making $1,000 or more in a day.
  
  If you have a good list then you should probably expect to make a whole lot more than that.
  
  Although really there's more to it than just the email you send out one day that brings in that income.
  
  Looking after your list and providing them with high quality content etc etc is what makes them responsive when you do make them an offer.
  
  And making sure that anything you promote is of genuine value to them helps too.
  
  It's the same with any other strategy that makes you good money in a short amount of time.
  
  There's some preparation and work involved.
  
  I've always loved the quote from Abraham Lincoln
  "I will prepare and my opportunity will come."
  
  That's so true.
  
  You have to be willing to put in the work beforehand so you can have $1,000+ days any time you want.
  
  In many cases you have to be willing to put in the work AFTER you've had your $1,000+ day to service the people who've purchased from you.

Pat, you need to get a clue about member moderation. One person can report a thread and guess what? Nothing happens. It takes at least 3 people to report for the thread to disappear and that's only if they are three very seasoned and trusted members. Most of the time it takes at least 5 people. So you cannot blame Meghan for your thread being deleted.

Just about everyone has had a thread deleted. It's not even always what you said but a direction that the mods have seen get out of control. It happens and it has nothing to do with them being "power mad"...trust me, just move on. Happens to the best of us.

Pat, speaking as one who has been banned before... dude... you shouldnt even have stalked megan to this thread for answers... it was an irrelevent interuption to the focus here.

Secondly, it was nice knowin ya, because if your waters are this easily stirred... I dont think you'll see 200 posts. Its easy to get banned here because it is a quality forum...

Standing up to Paul on this ground isnt brave... its stupid.

Edit: Paul is no Tyrant, but your point will be mute once he says "click. you're gone, you are an insignificant non variable now". I would take heed and tread lightly if you want a quality experience here.

True. Unlike you, though, I've met a whole lot of the members in person, and am easily verifiable as the person behind the name. I'm also someone who actively encourages dissenting opinions, as long as they stay within the rules of the forum.

I addressed something with you privately, and you chose to take it out on an uninvolved member publicly. We hear people all the time complaining about not getting warnings or explanations, and you've just demonstrated yet again why they're not a good idea.

You are only useful as long as you provide an example of the mindset that leads to these problems. You get to decide when you stay or go away. By your own actions.

You can build your list with the way you're creating your value online because as a result, there will always be email addresses captured the more they get enticed by your content. List building could really make this possible through high end commissions!

How could such an innocuous OP have resulted in one member getting a rapped knuckle and a temporary ban and another getting nuked? I never fail to be amazed at the stupidity of people.

On the other hand, it has been an entertaining, if somewhat voyeuristic experience - and I'd like to thank Mr. Vikstrom for so selflessly putting himself forward to be today's motley fool. Pig's bladder anyone?

Neil's original post may not have given a step-by-step guideline to starting your own list - goodness knows there are enough of those around and even a cursory search here would find some excellent advice - but it did serve as a very useful reminder to those who so often ask for help. Starting a list IS very sensible advice if it is heeded.

However, what this thread does show (if you can read between the pointless and off-topic rants that have so amusingly characterized it) is that a lot of people don't want advice that points them in the right direction. No, helpful advice isn't helpful to them. What they always want is detail and more detail. All the better to pick holes in and over analyze.

To those people I say this: stop looking for all the answers to be delivered to you on a plate. No matter how full the plate is, there will ALWAYS be something missing for you. Or something on it that is unpalateable to you.

Another perfectly good potential warrior success story becomes an insignificant non variable... better luck under the next username... whoever you were. It's not nice to fool with mother nature (uh, that'd be Paul in the Zen Redneck Translation)... write that down its an "ancient chinese secret".

The warrior forum is one of those things that you sometimes dont appreciate the value of till its gone... then you are like "OMG there isnt another place to turn, this place was IT"... everything else is sub par.

What some fail to realize is that different folks need different kinds of direction and encouragement. One person may need a lot of details, while another simply needs a nudge in the right direction. Neil provided the nudge. If you need details, this isn't the only thread about list building, use the search feature. Seek and you shall find.

This isn't a big secret, but if you haven't realized it before it could help: running your own business requires you to be a problem solver. Problem solvers don't wait for answers to come to them, they actively look for solutions.

If you sit back waiting for all the answers your business isn't likely to go very far. Go find what you need. You have to invest in your education. Investing in yourself means more than spending money, it also means investing your time and energy.

It's funny to me because I honestly think of internet marketing as list building. I guess it's because I was brought up with the guru method in my formative years. Squeeze page, sales page, teleseminar, big box course, seminars, repeat.

I started building my first list in 2006 and at one point I had a list size of over 100,000 people. But when the company I worked with split up, so did the list.

Now, it's back to rebuilding again....It's actually quite fun (if not laborious).
