Google Trends, Twitter, and A Very Cool Way to Drive Traffic!

Hello fellow warriors,

Here's a cool little tactic for you. Google Trends gives you up to the minute data on what's 'hot' and what people are talking about. That's good but how to take advantage of it NOW?

Here's how! First, visit Google Trends and see what the top 10 topics and or searches are. Then, when you create a tweet, include the exact trend as it is worded on Google Trends in your tweet. What will happen? Your tweet will show up in Google's web results, news results and more. Easy breezy. And a great way to drive traffic.

Here's an example. I teach piano online. What I want to to is tie-in something people are talking about like "Monterey Aquarium" to what I do which is teach New Age piano online. So I might post a tweet like this... "Monterey Aquarium is as relaxing as playing New Age piano. Free lesson at (website).

Do you see how this works? Good. Now put it to work!

So have you tried this? How much traffic does it produce for you? I've never seen a tweet show up in the SERPs.

Tina, it works very well! Hot searches and topics show up in page one of Google web results. That's the very deal Google made with Twitter! Try it. Go to Google Trends and then type in a hot search term into Google search.

Odds are very good, you will see a inline frame with real time tweets!

Hmm. I just tried it myself and it looks like Google is either not doing this right now or they've paused it. Either way, it's still a good tactic.

Yeah, sounds interesting. I haven't done much with Twitter but it would be different if it showed up in the SERPs.

Twitter sure has a lot of potential for online marketers. It's also useful to build backlinks or help content go viral. I never expected the tweet itself to be on the first SERP though! Pretty cool.

I knew I wasn't crazy. I just typed in Wikileaks in Google search (which is also in the top 10 in Google Trends,) and live twitter results showed up.

@quiescen is correct. Google does indexes the tweets and shows up in its results. It's just that I haven't seen a tweet in Google news though. I'll give this one a try anyways. Thanks for the share.

I just checked and Tweets DO show up in search results for topics that are in Google Trends, but since the Tweets aren't static (ie: they scroll), there's no guarantee that YOUR Tweet will be the one that shows up when someone reaches the page. Interesting idea, though.

I too always stick to Twitter. I have about 1200+ followers right now.

I have tried a similar approach in the past using Twitter and hot trends. It is possible to get traffic, but I (and others I talked to) had trouble converting that traffic to make it worth while. (Especially when it isn't really targeted. EX: If it is news about Monterey Aquarium they are seeking, they probably don't want to play piano)

I am sure there is a way to fine tune this, and that would be the true golden nugget.

I agree with VegasGreg, It seems like a great trick to use. It would just be making the traffic convert. I guess if you could find a topic and match it with a good CPA offer, then tweet it, that might work. Who knows... : )
