Excuses Outsourcers give for delays- I Know that Your Lying!

Am I the only one who thinks that the reasons for the delays some outsourcers give are a complete lie?

I agree many times people get busy with loads of work, loads of emails, and health issues, but some excuses are sometimes hard to believe. Do you have doubts with them somtimes?

I guess i mean for new workers, but long term ones you get to build some trust which can give you more assuranc.

It's funny you mention this cause I just terminated an outsourced job on odesk for this exact reason.

It's not very hard to tell if someone is making excuses cause there's usually a pattern.

Make an excuse once and I'll give you the benefit of the doubt (sh** happens!!). Make a ton of excuses then we all know you're full of it!!

OMG---I had a girl that gave me every excuse in the book as to why she didn't get my articles done. Then, I get an email of a naked baby's butt with a rash that said "look at this, this is what I'm dealing with". I erased it for fear someone would think it was porn---lol. Crazy!

One prominent reason is that the person was hospitalized for some weeks or he was writing exams

Lately I don;t even get an excuse!

Instead they just fall off the planet.....disappear and I have to start all over.

It should be easy if you set up your hiring system to weed out people from the start AND if you expect that that will fail and have backups in place ready to go.

I have never experienced a problem with my outsourcing.

I haven't really found anyone that gives tons of excuses. Sometimes a backlink report or two has been late, but no one has never just bailed on me. Well not yet at least.

I started my "outsourcing journey" trying to be somewhat sensitive and understanding. Those days are long past. Some days I feel as if I've adopted a whole new set of children who I am repeatedly quizzing: "Please outline for me precisely what you've been doing for 8 hours a day that I should be paying you for"...

they are getting the message. 2 worked all weekend to "make it up to me" and 1 of those 2 just simply didn't get paid last week. They have to submit a weekly report to me to get paid and I think he just knew better.

In the past 2 months, I have fired 2 and had 2 just plain disappear. I am committed to hanging in there (i'm stubborn) and think that there is potential to get a solid team together. ...not there yet though.

LOL, that's crazy. I got rid of one because everyone in her family had an accident or was in the hospital or something. It was very odd. Either she had very bad luck or was just severely procrastinating.

There are reliable people about, the key is to keep searching until you find them then treat them like gold.

You may have to go through 10 timewasters before you find a gem.

That is somthing which you learn to accept and move on with. But finding gems is good, and to keep them a gem you have to treat them well, whether it means giving them a bonus payment.

LOL I thought I was the only one who was having so many outsourcing problems. I have a project 6 weeks behind and I'm on my third developer. The second one just dropped off the end of the earth right in the middle of our project! Sheesh. Although the third time seems to be the charm. I have a very knowledgeable and efficient (most of the time) guy now.

  One of the new ones I was trying has been telling that he has been "out of station on travel" most of the times. I had paid him upfront on 26th April for a 1-month project and now I am still trying to get that job done because I thought he had a valuable service offered (only if I would ever get what he had promised).
  
  Again, I have a couple of GOLD outsourcers here and there and I really open my hat to salute their great work when I write to them.

  It really depends personally with the outsourcee and the outsourcer. Well anyone can have intrinsic motivation as you see. If the outsourcer is a goal setter then no excuses of such will happen. It really depends in so many factors too. Remember outsourcers are usually coming from a 3rd world country which is obviously full of problems and hindrances. All of us should be open-minded and must accept that things do happen without their control.
