Why are .co domains so EXPENSIVE?

.Com domains cost 10 dollars at Godaddy and .co domains are 30+ dollars...WHY IS THIS?

.com used to cost tons too when they came out. .co is new, so registrars are trying to make as much as they can. If you want to pay $10, you will need to wait prob a year or longer.

And can someone tell what the SEO difference is between a .com, .tv., .co, .net, etc.?

I read somewhere that Google announced that .co will be treated as a gTLD and not a ccTLD.

No known difference between .com and .net. Unsure of .tv since I don't really use it. I would assume it is on a level playing field though.

.co is actually an old extension, so I don't know how they will handle its weight. I can't imagine it would have the clout of .com/.net/.whateverElse since the development will be so new and thus the sites will tend to suck.

All of the domainers are rushing to get the best single word domains to resell. Godaddy and others know this, and are going to take advantage of the situation. It's no different than when a new movie is out, all of the ppv channels are going to charge more than for an older movie.

The price will come down when the keywords worth $30 speculation are gone.

.com gets slight edge, the rest is pretty much even.
.info is at a bit of a disadvantage because spammers flock to godaddy.com to take advantage of cheap registration cost for it.

I think international, more expensive domains has a tiny bit of advantage for the same reason - spammers won't buy them.

It's been quite a while since the last post in this thread but I just came across it while searching for something else, so I thought I'd reinvent it.
I just noticed that .co domains have indeed decreased in price as predicted and are now going for $11.88 from namecheap.com
It's interesting to learn that, as another warrior pointed out, that .co is an old extension and until a couple of years ago was used for Columbia, or so I'm told...

Q1 2011 Market Study Reveals Continued Strength in .com Sales while .CO Becomes the Rising Star in the Online Domain Marketplace
    Source: Reuters

As per Sedo's report, .CO has reached in 10 months the sales volume of well established extensions like .ES and .NL. Honestly, I don't think it's just hype anymore.

    As I have heard :
.tv is use for "TV Corporation".
    .net is use for "Network".
.go is use for "Government Web sites".
.ac is use for "academy or university".
.com use for global use, I think it is same as "company"
.co is used for "Company" and can be use for regional area, like .co.us, .co.id, etc.
(.com cannot be used for regional area : .com.us, or .com.id)

I think that's why the .co is more expensive than .com

Actually, .tv is the TLD for the island country of Tuvalu, although it's often used as "TV".

I happen to own 98 .co search related domains.
The first one just came online 1 week ago and it already ranks 58 for the keyword which is the same name as the domain. People can say what they want but the end of the day, a .co domain has the same chances as a .com to rank within the top 3 spots on google.
