Do Firefox and Windows VISTA Hate each Other?

Firefox was working fine but now I am unable to open the browser. I have to manually ctrl/alt/delete to pull up the Task Manager and manually close Firefox before I can open the browser.

And also, I installed SEO Quake but it does not work.

Is it an issue with incompatibility between VISTA and Firefox?

Thanks...

Firefox does the same thing to me, it's been happening for a while now, but so far I have not been able to find an effective solution, so you are not alone. Just do a Google search and you will see just how many others are experiencing it as well.

In general, I see more and more problems with Firefox, whether in Vista or XP. Lately I have seen constant errors with java scripts that won't stop running.... Vista is it's own set of problems as well.

Yeah, disappointing given that I love Firefox and all the neat extensions such as SEO Quake. But given the issues, I may have to find an alternative (sigh).

I use Vista with Firefox, and everything works fine. Maybe uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox will help.

My guess... the problem is with FireFox. Have you noticed how many upgrades there have been in the last month and a half? (3.6.3 - 3.6.8)

I too have been getting unexpected crashes since early June (and I'm running VISTA). Today I turned off all my extensions except for Adblock Plus and Java Console. (SeoQuake is turned off, but I'll turn it on when I really need to use it.)

If Firefox crashes again I'll uninstall it and install 3.1.x (which never gave me a problem).

VISTA runs fine on this end. I've never had a regular application crash it. The only time I've ever had a crash is when I've used FireFox (in the last couple of months.) In fact, one of FireFox's crashes caused a "blue screen." (My HD is virus/trojan/malware free.)

Yeah, I did notice all the updates recently. Something seems amiss. Think I'll try Chrome and the SEO Quake version made for Chrome and see how that works.

No problem with Vista/Firefox combination but I don't use many extensions or plug-ins. Update both Vista & Firefox regularly & check to be sure any browser mods, tool bars, etc. are not at the root of your problem.

Check Vista & Firefox, upgrade and see if that are not other errors available.
    It might work great then.
I use this combination for 1 year and I do not have any problems.

I also used to deal with the Vista curse. Since, I upgraded to Win 7 Ultimate and I could not be happier!

Windows Vista is actually just a XP on steroids with a few aero elements integrated into the operating system. If you were able to break down the OS and compare XP and Vista side by side you would see what I mean. It wasn't tested thoroughly enough before release and the compatibility issues are endlessly mounting even still after 7 has been out for quite awhile.

Firefox is an outstanding alternative to IE on all aspects relative to browsing, especially security if coupled with the AVG toolbar.

I highly recommend upgrading to Windows 7 as soon as possible, the anytime upgrades are pretty good and will allow you to keep your stuff the way it is now.

Windows XP is still near the same cost as Windows 7 but 7 will run on 1GB of RAM just fine so in my opinion there is no reason not to take the plunge and leave the Vista headaches behind. Windows 7 is the best of both worlds as long as you get at least the Professional version which has the XP emulator software, compatible with everything old and new.

Just my experience having a background in computer repair, I have seen it all but am extremely partial to Win 7 as a superb replacement for XP. Vista sucks.

    Hello
I personality think it is true, They just don't compatible with each other. Firefox is the best compare to other internet browse. Most people use firefox because they experience the least problem. Most of the time, people who experience problems would be from Vista. But you should try upgrade everything to see if there is any different.

I have really been feeling isolated and picked on until I found this thread. I posted about this in another pretty big forum and no one could relate.

I can't log in to half my cpanels and wp blogs in firefox even though I KNOW the passwords are correct and I was just in there a few minutes ago.

Firefox crashes multiple times a day (but it's always done that).

This is new - I can't edit themes in wordpress with Firefox. The code is greyed out. I have to open up the site in Google Chrome to edit any wordpress theme code.

    sigh - yes - I have Vista.

I feel for you and am deeply saddened by all the horrific hoops people must jump through to do simple tasks on their machines.

A few things that may help you (and others) is to download and run a program called CCleaner, tick the boxes beside "windows log files" "DNS cache" "old prefetch data" and "IIS log files" and run the cleaner. Also run the registry cleaner as well on a regular basis.

Once you have done that, open your start menu (taskbar) and type in the search bar at the bottom %temp% -this will bring up a temp folder- DELETE everything inside that temp folder (any files it says it cannot delete because they are in use, skip)

This will clean out some of the residual crap that may be lurking around in the memory banks and possibly result in less crashes.

      Hope this helps!

One of the first sites I ever created was for a computer business and I made a 10 step guide which goes into detail about many things you can do to keep your PC cleaned out and running good. Hopefully I won't get spanked for linking it and it will help some of you to get a handle on your machines: 10 step guide to a faster PC

I had this problem a while back and I discovered that it's a problem with the SQLite database that stores data for Firefox becoming too large.

I have not heard about that scenario. I think, it is due to some other problem that firefox is not working in your vista.

Actually I like Vista. I do have 7 on a computer that I'm using right now. Most of the differences are just minor. Mostly I just do text and code so any system can handle that. But in the ways that they are different, so far I prefer Vista.

Firefox is by far my most used browser. I really appreciate some of the plug ins, but it is just a bit dingbatty too. It will not reload the css file on refresh now.

I used to be able to get it to do that with ctrl + F5, but the latest version won't. Selecting history > show all history and then right clicking on the site and selecting 'forget about this site' used to do that too, but won't anymore.

Hopefully they get that worked out and update it.

This sounds like the ultimate stupid question...Who Cares! If they both hate each other that sounds like you are possibly not happy with their performance. If that is the truth then this is the real question...What do I have to do to find a better Operating System or Browser.
