Are Yahoo users dumber than other internet users?

Every time I send out a mailing (double opt in of course) I get spam complaints from Yahoo dip****s. I guess that is what I get for enhancing Yahoo Answers with but c'mon, this is getting ridiculous. It seems like it is only my Yahoo subscribers who have no clue what the word "newsletter" means. Sometimes I just want to turn the internet off.

Maybe they are smarter than most people and can read right through your "newsletter" and see it as a marketing pitch?

    Just thinking out loud ;-)

Yet not smart enough to find the unsubscribe link?

And how do you know his newsletter is a marketing pitch and not a newsletter?

      Also just thinking out loud.

lol I hear you but I don't try to sell them a thing, that is the mysterious part of it and that is why it sort of annoys me. It's just a paragraph or so telling them about updates to the site etc. There is no sales pitch at all, just a link back to the site where they originally double opted in and I just sort of say hi to them in a friendly way. If I was hammering them every day I'd expect complaints but this is weird. Since 99% of the complaints are from Yahoo people, I have to wonder what is going on.

I wouldn't call them stupider. They are just not as Internet Savy as Google users.

You can probably say the same thing about people using IE instead of Mozilla.

Wasn't saying his newsletter was that way, just thinking of possibilities.

I see you also mention Yahoo Answers. If that is the source of your list, that could explain it too. A lot a "marketer haters" really try to kill any attempts at marketing there. They will follow you and click every "report abuse" button they can find around you. (These can also be your competitors trying to get your account shut down so they are the only survivors). Sad, but true.

    Hi Rich Struck

One way to reduce these complaints is to include the details of how they subscribed to your newsletter such as their email address, their ip address, the date and time when they subscribed and the url of the site they subscribed to.

If you use aweber as your autoresponder you can easily retrieve such information.
