Feeling Unmotivated, did I pick a dud? attached

**Sorry this was posted sooner than I meant. When I uploaded a pic it posted this before I finished for some reason?**

I used Market Samurai to find a keyword for a micro niche. It is not in the top 200 at this point. The domain name is almost an exact match...the keywords come first and then a word at the end.

Did I pick a dud? I learned today about how dofollow backlinks from comments don't really count. The good news is 8/10 of the backlinks from the competition do not have a PR 1 or higher. AND the keyword is not the anchor text.

MY website is the top line.

How old is the site? barely a week old
Is it indexed? yes
Is it wordpress and if so are the privacy settings on? wordpress and no privacy settings on
Do you have content on the site? yes, still building, but about 1.5% keyword density right now
Have you submitted a sitemap to Google? yes
Is there a sitemap? yes

The website is in the apparel/shoes industry. There are department stores in top 10. Two or three of the websites are online stores only. No articles are in the top 10.

My source of backlinking is commenting on related industry forums and articles. I have submitted Ezine articles as well. Social bookmarking to Digg, etc. Submitted to directories.

How sure are you it is not in the top 200?

Have you checked manually or are you using software? The reason I ask is that I had a site which I thought was not in the top 200 HOWEVER the software was looking for either http://blank.com or ht.tp://www.blank.com and the big G had it listed as blank.com (no http at all). In fact G still has it listed this way even to this day.

It looks like you should be able to rank for that but sometimes it takes a while for you to get there. If your site is barely a week old, then I think you just need some patience.

Try using a varied backlink strategy - what are you doing for backlinking?

What other info can I give you all to help determine the likelihood of getting this on the first page? I know it is not overnight unfortunately, lol.

It sounds like you are on the right track. All you can do now is keep backlinking and wait. It will happen, just have the faith!

Market Samurai. Oh my, I just checked and all of a sudden I dropped out of the top 1000!? WTH. I was like number 224 this morning and yesterday I was 210. What on earth. The times I checked, I did click on the actual URL in market samurai and it took me to the Google search so I saw where it was on the page.

don't panic...it's a brand new site... It will settle...Google dance and all that...keep doing the work...one week is nothing unless you wanted this venture to be profitable in week 1.

      Good luck

I have to wonder where these expectations come from? Are there courses out there that fail to mention "it takes time"?

One week is enough to get a site online and get it indexed. Just because it's an exact match domain doesn't mean it will magically jump to google's top 200 - or top 500 for that matter.

You are doing the right things - but patience is necessary. It may take months to position a site well no matter what you do. Depends on the SEO of the site and on the competition. A week old site is not going to immediately rank above sites in the same niche that have been online for some time.

Keep promoting the site but develop a realistic expectation of a what a brand new site will accomplish. Keep doing what you are doing - but also keep building content on the site at the same time. Stick with it and the site will eventually begin to move up in the rankings.

edit: People who tell you their site "ranked" right after it was published don't understand that sites often are just thrown to the top when indexed until google gets around to ranking them a couple days later.

Dear April: I don't want any trouble from you.
January was long, February was iffy, March was a freaking dumpster fire.
So sit down, be quiet, and don't touch anything.

thanks for the encouragement. I am participating in the Challenge. I didn't know about it until a few days ago, after I purchased some sites. Fortunately, because of the challenge, I can now have the trial period for 70 days.

I am glad to know it does take time. I was under the impression by some of the posts I've read that if it doesn't rank well within a certain period it is a lost cause. I didn't know what the time period was though. I think the exact keyword search micro niche info out there kind of leads you to believe if you buy an exact domain name it will appear lower in the ranks. At least that was my impression.

            Thanks for the responses!
