Web 2.0 basically means "sharing" and "social media" on the internet.

I'll let Wikipedia explain it better...

10 years ago, "Web 1.0" was about the means: HTML, GIFs, JPEGs, all the technology stuff. It was also about one way communication from the authors to the masses.

10 years later, "Web 2.0" seems to be about the ends: sharing a photo, telling your friends where you'll be meeting up, contributing to a crowd-sourced article. The communication lines aren't now one way -- they travel from the many to the many.

The interactive web vs. the static, publication-based 1-way broadcast brochureware web.

      Exactly.

Web 1.0 is the equivalent of buying a hardcover book and reading it from front to end to learn something.

Web 2.0 is the equivalent of a classroom where you can instantly raise your hand, ask questions and talk to one another about lessons.

      Web 2.0 is community-centric while Web 1.0 was document-centric.

In a way, it's kind of retro. Back in the freenet/bbs days, businesses and organizations would have their own spots in the system and they'd provide information as well as actually interact with users in the online community.

Then, Web 1.0 took us a step backward. Sure, we could have prettier looking destinations, customized the way we wanted them to look, but we largely lost that interactive portion. Some may have had forums, but others preferred not to have people talking about them, especially if anything negative might be discussed. So, Web 1.0 became kind of about control as well.

Then, Web 2.0 has basically taken things back to where they were before Web 1.0. Except now things might look prettier.

Dan's content is irregularly read by handfuls of people. Join the elite few by reading his blog: dcrBlogs.com, following him on Twitter: dcrTweets.com or reading his fiction: dcrWrites.com but NOT by Clicking Here!

Dan also writes content for hire, but you can't afford him anyway.

To me, web 2 is about an interactive internet.

web 1 was not interactive, they were just static sites.

    web 1 - static sites
    web 2 - interactive sites

It means that you can interact with a website.

I dont know about you, but I like going to sites that I can post content on.
