In need of help regarding the PayPal IPN...

A couple of weeks ago PayPal emailed me with an Instant Payment Notification Warning.

I had deleted a website from which I had sold an ebook using a very old script called MDD.

According to PayPal, instant payment notifications were failing on that website (they would - it no longer exists).

They also informed me that IPNs were failing on another website - this time one that I do not own, but have been an affiliate for via RAP.

After sending me a couple of such warnings - but giving no information about how to deal with the problem and no contact details - they followed up by advising me that they have disabled the IPN on my entire PayPal account.

As a result my sales pages can accept payments, but do not redirect customers to a download page if the payment has been made with either RAP or the $7 script.

After a lot of head scratching (just to find out how to speak with a human being) I got through to a lady at PayPal, but she has left me even more confused.

She says that I have to reintegrate IPN on my websites and that I should get my web developer to do it.

I don't have a clue what she means and don't have a web developer to call on.

She seemed to be telling me that I had to reverse the changes made to the two sites in question before 'reintegrating' on all my other sites. Clearly I can't reverse anything on a site I don't own or a site that no longer exists.

Does anyone have a clue? Where do I go from here?

Right now, every sale I make either ends up in the irate customer emailing me to complain about non-delivery of their purchase, or raising a dispute directly with PayPal. Clearly that situation can't go on, but PayPal seem unable or unwilling to tell me what to do next.

    It's a bummer when the PayPal IPN doesn't work. I can't
imagine what it would be like to have it not functioning
for a long period of time.

Have you read the help pages regarding the IPN at PayPal?

Just type IPN into the top right hand search box at PayPal
and you'll find a bunch of pages with various information
    regarding their IPN.

    For example:

    Introducing the IPN:

    https://cms.paypal.com/uk/cgi-bin/?&...admin_IPNIntro

That may help you understand the process better so you can
understand what to do from here, and/or translate what PayPal
    are telling you.

Martin, can't you simply change the IPN url and turn it back on within your paypal ipn settings?

    Martin,

PayPal has been doing this for a while, kind of cleaning up the IPN notifications going out to invalid script URLs. What you need to is call them, ask for tech support (not customer service) and have them walk you through resetting the IPN for your account.

I had to do this recently, but it went smoothly by calling them and getting things sorted out on the phone.

    Thanks,

    John
