I am searching for information on list building as I am completely new to this area and I am getting information overload. Is there a simple approach to building a list and what all I would need.

I have two sites that get a decent amount of traffic but I am not capturing emails and wanted to start building a list so I can test it out. I think the area where I am most confused is the part where you offer something free for them to subscribe. How do I put that form and free gift on the website? Any advice is appreciated.

That will require a little investment. Just sign up with Aweber and add their code to your site. They charge a monthly fee.

You need an email optin collector, and a form creator, aswell as a method of sending out emails to your list.

Getresponse and aweber do this. But you have to pay for these services.

As far as giving somthing for free, create a report such as
    - 10 ways to *your niche*,
    - 10 tips on *your niche*
    - how to do *something in our niche*

If you can't write, outsource this to a writer/researcher, so you have your hot report which can attract subscribers. They get the report on subscribing- by giving their email address.

You would need a thank you page, where they download the report, or you can send it as a link in your first email

As far as creating the optin form, you get the code when you create the campaign which you would give to your websmaster to install, or you would do it if you make your own pages. It can be a bit fiddly, but once you do it some times it gets better, as with all things.

Ok, so basically I can do all the things I need to with getresponse or aweber. Which one do you recommend for someone just starting out though or will it not make a difference? I'm looking at both and right now I am leaning towards getresponse.

Mailchimp is another one. You can use it for free for the first 500 leads. Good place to start without having to spend any money. That would get you use to using a lead capture from an autoresponder system.

I would also suggest hiring a graphic designer to make an e-cover for your free report. You should be able to get one done for less than $50.

What are your two sites if you don't mind me asking? Then I can point you in the right direction...

  • Sign up with Aweber, GetResponse or iContact (they charge a monthly fee, but it's a must in this business).

Seems like everyone else answered your question but anyways, I would stick with aweber. Its easy to use and learn.

Just create something of value (free report, e-book, video) and give it away for free. Set up your form on aweber and post it on your site. It will then ask them to confirm that they requested their free gift. Once they do they will be sent directly to the download and be added to your list.

    simple stuff.

Ok, I am leaning towards aweber now. Seems like they have more features in terms of customization. It seems a lot simpler now. Now I just have to get some more info on download pages and working that all in with the list form.

Hi I recommend Imnica Mail which is by a fellow warrior. Do a search for it, he has a WSO at the moment and its a lot cheaper than Aweber or Get Response.

    Good Luck

I think the most common and working method is to other your visitor an free online report or a free ebook as an alternative for their emails. Some tips for list building are given below.
    1. Try your email subscription forum on a number of place in your site.
    2. Just keep the process easy and fast.
    3. Keep your free offer related to your site.
    4. Try to build some trust among your email subscribers.
    5. Don't just full their email inbox with a bunch of emails, Give them quality content.
    6. Keep you most of information and services for free and list some other free reports and ebooks in your emails.

But at last Quality list building is a time consuming task, so be patience.

Links also have different values. One of the best values that you get from a link with keywords in the anchor text located within the relevant content, such as blog posts or other text.
