Is there any service around to handle all the functions in WordPress from a remote host?

Would you rely on such a service?

    Hmm .. I'm trying to do some market research.

    Say a service with users. All the techie stuff they have to do is input cpanel user and pass. Then do some clicks and:

    # install wordpress on their server
    # upload and activate themes
    # upload and setup plugins
    # configuration
    # posts
    # .....

    I have used WP MU and love it, but it may not be what you're looking for.

      Just sounds like you need a basic reseller account with fantastico.

      Though I'm not aware of anything that automates the customization process itself.

      Maybe some of the resident programmers can chime in.

      Your talking about one massive and expensive script.. Then on top of that the programmer would need to keep up with coding changes in wordpress and adjust or build more onto the script for these changes..

      Can something like this be done ? Well sure it can .. Will it cost you in upper $10,000+ to have it built, well sure it would.. This would not be a childs script and would require massive functions not to mention security and 256 bit encryption for data transfers..

      There is not a market for it because of several reasons..

      1. The cost can get very high very fast...

      2. With such a high output to start the project what is the service going to cost ? Would have to be in a high price range most could not afford..

      3. If wordpress changes the way the system is coded then you have some serious problems as your entire system may have to be re-coded..

        Naaah .. I think you're wrong this time.

        It won't cost that much and it won't need 256b encryption (do you use that when posting to your wp blog?), and it won't be that hard to maintain (I'm a programmer and I know a little bit more than the average ).

        But it wouldn't be a childs script and it would require ongoing maitenance, I agree on this one

      Have been using Wordpress since those portal building days. We used to install Wordpress as the frontend of each portal and as we build in batches of 50-250 domains, such service/script is very useful.

      As far as I know, there are a couple of such service then, but they fizzle out when scripts such as WP Manager DX (and a couple more which I didn't remember the names) are release where users can just install the script on one server, set up standard profiles (such as theme, plugins, customized settings etc) and press a single button to get it installed on remote domains. Oh yes, WP Manager DX auto-setup the MySQL databases for you as well. It's literally a handsoff approach.

    Wordpressdirect.com does what you're thinking of and adds auto-content plugins at a various subscription levels. They had some significant challenges dealing with different hosting setups.

    There are stacks of plugins that will automate some of which have been added in this thread. In addition, there is wordpress direct and firepow which are both monthly memberships and another one whose name escapes me.

    From what you have explained it would require exactly what I posted not to mention a dedicated server.

    If you are going to have a script that will login and create databases and such from one server to another server then yes you need SSL 256 Bit-Encryption..

    If you want a script that will do all this for you then yes it will cost that much if coded by a proper website developer and it would require technology such as Curl or Snoopy, Ajax, JavaScript, amoung other technologies..
