Videos WITH or WITHOUT? the 'time display'?

Do you prefer videos with the time display showed at the bottom, compared to ones without?

I am on about them ones you see on peoples sales and squeeze pages,

I like with the time, as I can judge how long the video is, and if I want to rewind to a point, at least I have a time number I can associate with to go back.

Show me the time! The only reason you would remove that for your visitors is if you talk too damn much.

    Definitely with the time display!

It's funny that you asked this question because it is a huge pet peeve of mine when I see a video without the time display. It pisses me off and you don't want me in that frame of mind if you want me to watch your video! Okay, that and I'm a bit of a control freak and like to know how much of my time you're actually going to take up.

Just give me a rewind button along with being able to pause.

      I'm married.

      It helps.

      Trust me.

That cracked me up. I'm the same way, I don't really care. I just hate it when I can't pause the video. I can live without the rewind button, but it would be nice.

I understand why marketers do it without the time. If you did, most people would just skip straight at the end to see the price. Knowing the end result would kill the sale probably. It doesn't give the author the chance to get the buyer in the right mind set.

Of course if the buyer is now ticked off, it doesn't really matter does it?

LMAO! Good call! Yeah pause button would have been very helpful, most the time I just keep it running and wait for the add to cart button to appear lol.

I also agree with brad about people being able to skip through the video straight to the price.

It's worth testing with a pause button

I want all three. Rewind, pause and the time
displayed. I only watch video for 10 minures at
          a time.

I will pause it and come back. I don't like spend
more time than that watching. I get the info
in smaller bits of time. Make notes.

I was just watching a promotional campaign that had this issue, and was thinking greatly about it..

100% with time display, no matter the length!

Yeah I was just watching Ryan Deis's video and missed something with the intent to go back just a little bit to catch that part again. Nope. Only pause and play. I decided to just give up on the video because of that and left the site.

Personally, I want the regular controls on a video. Otherwise, I usually just leave and forget about it. My time is pretty valuable too, so when someone doesn't want to add, I don't want to watch it.

I think Ryan's view is that hiding the controls somehow "forces" you to watch. That is, since you can't "rewind," you'll be more likely to keep watching so you don't miss anything.

But I think it's ridiculous. People are in a hurry. Not being able to judge how long the video is -- and how much of your time you'll have to invest -- makes it less likely that people will watch.

      One more pet peeve...

I hate videos that start out by admonishing me to unplug the phone, close my e-mail, and pay attention... as if I'm in kindergarten. You will NOT endear yourself to your prospects by talking down to them.

        Hey John.

Add to this the death knell phrase at the beginning of a video, that goes somewhat like:

"But first, let me tell you a bit about myself, just so you know who I am and what I am all about" blah blah blah

Tell you what Mr Video Producer..... I really, really don't care.

I want you to tell me the information you promised me when I gave you a chance by clicking on your link. If you interrupt that with accolades or stories about yourself and your house, family life, cars, pets etc, then you have most likely lost me.

If I am interested in the content you actually promised to tell me about, then I will seek out more information about YOU if I am in so inclined (and many times I am, because I like smart people who respect my time). Just don't force me to listen to how great you are, especially without video controls.

Give me pure value in the video without the overused set-up material and I will reward you (all of you collectively) with a MUCH higher conversion rate.

I like the regular controls as well as there is nothing worse than getting an interruption and them not being able to go back and hear what you missed without going back to the beginning.

Another vote for time display. Almost all people wouldn't resist to not look at how much the time is spent even if the topic has already been interesting or not as this will guide them if they need to hop onto their work again or continue listening/watching. Also, this pays a lot when they're planning for a download.
