A Clean Slate to work with....

Hi everyone, just joined today and this is my first post so go easy on me plz
Questions, at the moment, is all I have. I've done abit of reading and downloaded pdf files/videos to peruse but have not yet grasped the basic concepts of affiliate marketing due to info overload..... there's just SOOOO much info to consume. I just need to be set in the right direction so I'm not wandering aimlessly.
1. Where should I be starting? This info IS free, right? So why do people pay for it?

I've been bombarded by email with offers that seem too good to be true. ie How to make 5 figures/mth in your 1st month..... Well, seems too good to be true BUT (maybe I'm just a sucker to all the hype) people are doing it, right? So....
2. Is it worth buying a package that I can emulate straight away or putting the pieces together myself? Are these packages any good or should they be left alone?
3. Can anyone recommend any of these packages? (Will probably get 5000 different answers here!! )
4. Must I master all the "components" ie SEO, blogging, keywords etc in order to see ANY decent money?

With my present daytime job, it gives me alot of sparetime at home so time invested in IM shouldn't be a problem for me. Just the research I expect will take some time and the motivation (will need plenty of that).
I will undoubtedly have more questions in time so thankyou all for your patience and help.

You're not paying for the information so much as the time and effort someone else has gone to assemble it all in one place.

I've been bombarded by email with offers that seem too good to be true. ie How to make 5 figures/mth in your 1st month..... Well, seems too good to be true BUT (maybe I'm just a sucker to all the hype) people are doing it, right? So....
They're not, get over that kind of thinking right now.

    2. Is it worth buying a package that I can emulate straight away or putting the pieces together myself? Are these packages any good or should they be left alone?
Before you buy anything, spend some time reading this and other forums. Start to build up an idea of what you'd like to do. To make a success out of anything is going to require you to put in a *lot* of hours so make sure you're going to enjoy the process as much as possible.

Then once you've found something you like doing, start making select purchases to speed that up. Whether it's a system to emulate, software to do parts of the job or outsourcing to take the load off.

Plan first, purchase second. No Exception!

    3. Can anyone recommend any of these packages? (Will probably get 5000 different answers here!! )
No one else can recommend such a package for you. What interests them won't interest you and vice versa.

    4. Must I master all the "components" ie SEO, blogging, keywords etc in order to see ANY decent money?
Absolutely not. In fact, if you try (like most people) you'll make nothing. You want to get *really* good at one or two things and forget the rest. That's where the real money lies.

With my present daytime job, it gives me alot of sparetime at home so time invested in IM shouldn't be a problem for me. Just the research I expect will take some time and the motivation (will need plenty of that).

I think newbies need to read the forums and get a good idea of what type of marketing they want to get into before they start spending money. There's many things you can do to make money .... PPC, Adsense, Site/Domain flipping, selling services, creating your own products and on and on.

Until you have a good idea of where you want to spend your efforts, you might be wasting money just randomly buying products.

sbucciarel and Andy, cheers for the helpful info.
I think making/selling my own product would be a goal of mine eventually but I can see that this is a VERY competitive field, am I wrong? Or is the WHOLE of the IM world VERY competitive with no room for the little guy?

If you're thinking of making a make money online product, yeah ... that's very competitive and I wouldn't start there. Actually, I didn't start making my own products until I had been at IM for a couple of years. I've been a web designer for many years, so that was a natural for me to continue to sell websites. But I also expanded into domain flipping and wrote ebooks on both of those.

If you have some money to invest in a programmer, you can get a useful piece of software coded and sell that. There are a lot of options for creating your own product. Some people launch membership sites with valuable content. Just ... whatever you create ... make it top notch. Overdeliver and make your customers happy. Don't do anything half-ass.

Anything worth doing is competitive. There is no free lunch. But that doesn't mean you can't do it.

Millions of people make a living online everyday in all kinds of different ways. The most important part is to find one that truly interests you and get good at it.

sbucciarel makes and sells (flips) websites for a living.

I'm a product creator mostly focused around software and SEO.

I have a copywriter working for me who makes his living doing nothing but writing ace copy.

Another guy does my graphics, he's very good.

A number of writers, the best of which (R Hagel) makes her living doing various kinds of writing from sales copy to reports and articles.

The repeating pattern here is that everyone in that list has got *really* good at one particular thing. We don't flit from one thing to the next without ever amassing any real competitive advantage.
