Teens Guide To Getting Started Online

This was a long time coming... I've been getting e-mails/pms/vms from people, and I've noticed a significant amount of threads by teens that want to get started on the Internet.

So, I think I should compile a guide here for those who are looking to get started on the Internet, and then get into Internet Marketing. Some of you, may want to skip some parts, because you already have a start-up budget.. Others will not, so I'll teach you how to get the start up .

Getting Your First Couple Dollars

This is the most important part. At this point, you probably have an interest in Affiliate Marketing and other stuff, but you don't understand every concept, and you need a start-up budget for the domain and hosting.

To get started, of course you will need a paypal account. I recommend using a parents account, it's the legal way to do it, so it's obviously the right way. I know having it in our parents name is painful, but your also lying if your under 18, and say that your over .

Ok.. So now that we have paypal. Here's some ways to get your first $25-50. You really need this or more to get started, because there are costs like domains/hosting, and other stuff that I mentioned above. So here's ways to get a small amount of cash:

1. Article Writing - I think it's used and abused to the max as the easiest way to make money online, if you can write; you can become an Article Writer. I remember getting started online, that this was one of those things that I did, and made the start-up money with.

Basically you charge a certain amount per word, to write articles for someone, to use on there websites. I find a great place to find these people, is on the top Webmaster Forums; you can find them by doing a Google Search.

If you do say 500 word articles for $5, after doing 4 of them you will have $20, and then on and on. It's best to gain as big a start-up as you can, before you give up on that, and move on to what I call "with a start-up budget". Things with a start-up budget will usually make you more money (IMO).

However, there are professional article writers, who make a good living just doing that, so it is a viable option.

2. Small - Jobs: This is the section I refer to as small-jobs, these are things you can do to make a bit of cash on the side. Most are self-explanatory:

Forum Posting: Forum Owners will pay you to build a basis of content for there forum. I see a TON of teens doing this online today. You usually charge around .05-.10 per post, and give them quality posts. I see a lot of forum owners looking, on admin forums, and webmaster forums. Again, start with a google search for the top forums.

Blog Commenting: Again, you can get started by commenting on people's blogs for a small-amount, I am not sure of the going-rate today, however, I know that back a while ago, it was .10 per comment, for some people. Again, every employer is different.

Fiverr: This is really new to the field, but basically you do small tasks for $5. I've heard of lots of people getting started by doing small tasks. Just look around fiverr, and see which ones get purchased the most, so you know how to get started.

--

Ok, so I hope that got you a start-up budget, and you aren't falling asleep at this post yet, because here's where I earned my BIG cash, this is the big stuff:

With a start-up budget. What you can do.

Flipping Sites - One of my favorite ways to earn a couple hundred dollars, is to buy a website, somewhere on the internet, then resell it a month later, when I've added new content, and changed it up a bit for a higher cost. My last flip sold for $850, and me and a partner purchased it for the small cost of $200. That's the power of flipping. If your wondering, the sale usually goes down through flippa.com

Affiliate/CPA Marketing: You know, this is something that I've yet to master fully. But, it's good to set up blogs/sites and market others products, you can make a ton marketing Clickbank/CPA and others products, if you can get the conversions/buys. It all depends on your skill and setup.

Well, that's basically all for now, I'm going to add some more ways to make money online, later; but right now I have a lot to do. So, I hope that helps get some teens started working online, and on there way to making the big bucks.

Hi Caleb,

I'm printing your post and giving it to my son. I've talked to him about venturing online but he didn't seem too interested. It may be something that's not right for him but, I figure if I give him your post it might spark an intertest and give him something to think about.

We live in Ontario too. Where are you? Don't worry, I won't drop my son off at your house for coaching!

Thanks!
ice Post.

BTW, I got started online when I was 15 too (now 17)
I've been so blessed for the compliments everyone

    Hi Caleb,

I'm 18 but this is the third time I have really tried to do something with affiliate marketing. I'm currently writing articles for brighthub but I keep checking flippa for some interesting sales.

Your posts always fill me with a bit more inspiration and I always find something new, keep it up!

Writing articles for other people is a pain in the ass (pardon my language) if you're just starting out. I've tried it myself a long time ago and I threw in the towel pretty quick. As far as I'm concerned you really need to be able to deal with criticism! It's really hard to get it right the first time.
I found my self constantly editing the article just to please the other person. I don't think it's worth the $5.

If you really don't have the start up money, borrow it. I'm sure your friends or parents can miss $20 for webhosting. Plus, you can make that money quickly with a after school job.

I really recommend getting into affiliate marketing and skip the writing for other people part unless you really like to write.

    Just my 2 cents.
