What's the best IP blocking plugin for wordpress?

WP ban works, most use Akismet, but is there something better than these for blocking spammers through WP?

And is it true these losers can somehow "spoof" ip addresses with backlink software?

    It's not that hard to hide your ip. You can use a vpn or a proxie. But what you are talking about sounds like a full attack on your site. Is it one person who just keeps spamming your site through different ips? That seems highly unlikely to me.

    Akismet works wonders on all of my sites.

    You can try googling "wordpress block ip plugin" - I came up with a ton of stuff.

      It's some dork who's trying to get backlinks for his SEO website. He's posted twice a day for the last few days.

      There's another spammer who doesn't post a comment as often as this other guy, but I wouldn't call what the first guy is doing an attack.. just abuse.

      I purchased Akismet today, and will read up on it before I ask more opinions. Thanks again,

    WordPress has got several security issues like putting spam by some anonymous users. So to prevent this spam, Akismet is a full proof widget available to stop out spam & filtering of content.

    Also WordPress has Security Plugin which is mostly available in the latest themes / patches to stop anonymous posting & spamming the whole blog.

    It is offered in the name of WP Ban plugin.

    If I remember it correct, cPanel also has IP ban. (if you are using cPanel as control panel)

      I don't have Akismet. My host is Hostmonster. I use Cpanel>Security>IP Ban and put in the spammers IP addresses. I bought an aged domain and have to do this everyday.

      So thanks for the heads up about the other WP Plugins. Using Spammer Blocker and Simple Track Back and still have to block IP's.

      If anyone knows of a Akismet clone, please advise.
