Blogging or articles: which offers greater value?

I've had generally good results publishing articles over the years. My articles provide backlinks and traffic and also offer the bonus of pre-selling.

But recently I started a blog in a subdirectory of my site and I haven't written an article since. I enjoy the more casual tone of blogging and I've been able to publish new posts regularly.

This is in contrast to my experience with articles. I tend to get bogged down in technical detail and my style can be a bit stiff. The result is that I'm not able to produce articles anywhere near as frequently as I do blog posts. And it's about as enjoyable as getting a tooth pulled!

So my question is what is the relative value of blog posts versus articles?

I'm sure the most sensible strategy is to continue writing articles at least once in a while but I'd be happier to just concentrate on blogging if I could.

Any advice will be much appreciated!

Publish the articles on your blog and then send them to the article directories...

So... my answer would be both

My blog posts are articles. I post them all on my own blogs/sites first, and then submit them to EZA (after they've been indexed on my own property, of course), and then to half a dozen other good-ish article directories.

Effectively, these days, there isn't any difference between a "site" and a "blog", because all the leading blogging software producers include static page facilities, and you can make a "non-blog site" which looks nothing like a "blog" (but can still be updated regularly and therefore get plenty of Google attention) using "blogging software" to do so.
      Alexa,

I viewed this thread because I saw your name, your posts are always good.

Anyways... Do you find that promoting them to ezine gets you better results or any at all?

This way, I'm getting other people doing some of my off-page SEO for me, and it's where the real money is, in "article marketing".

But I do also get some traffic and sales directly from having articles in EZA, too - as well as backlinks, of course.
Ahh I see - That does give me some new ideas for blogging, a nice way to get a good amount of backlinks.

If it's an affiliate product, would you suggest putting both your blog link, and the affiliate link in the resource line on EZA.

          Thanks for answering.

          Hi Alexa

Do you post under your own name at EZA or another identity?

          Cheers,

She posts under an alias that we can't know... Imagine how much she'll get ezine stalked, after being warrior-stalked.

Not necessarily, I post under my own name. I also give away lots of top-quality information from my main site. It would be very easy for someone to reverse-engineer my business.

I accept that like many other people, Alexa may take a different view: that's why I asked the question, but thanks for your reply anyway.

It's not a question of either, or. You should do both, because they both offer value.

I prefer going for Blogs when it comes to putting Articles in them. Blogs are an effective medium which offers a large variety of customizing features, fully established control panel, ability of generate traffic to one's site.

If a word comes about Articles, then there is a common feeling that Good Content brings huge traffic to the site only when we put good matter to it.

Better allows blogs to attract community of users as they are getting aware with some new identity

I only have 2 names on the internet.

Mohammad Afaq is my real name and I use it for IM and personal stuff online.

______________ is my pen name and I use this over the 30 or 40 niche markets I am in

So if I release one of my sites, a person can find all of my sites and I don't want this to happen because haters can easily post negative comments on my sites and harm my business.

    That's why I still haven't posted a WSO

I agree with JayXtreme but I would add that blogs work faster. Articles take time in my experience. But one of the things I like about Ezine Articles is they tell you which articles are most read and they give you the keywords too. Then you can use those ideas and keywords to write more articles and create products around them. Very cool!
