Anyone Use WP Thesis Theme? Their Site Is Screwed!

Hey Guys,

I am sure some of you use the cool thesis wordpress theme however anyone know where their site has gone?

The whole thing is down!!!

Has it been hacked?

Anyone know?

      That's how the urban legends start...

      They are NOT sued.
      WP was contemplating it but later the developer of the theme agreed to accept - at least partially - the GPL license.

      I never realized they had issues. I just googled and the story between wordpress and thesis so far is pretty interesting.

      The premium wordpress themes and plugins make up for a multi-million dollar market. And if wordpress was to sue thesis and enforce the GPL clause in question, businesses could be ruined overnight.

      Update: I fail to understand how a paid theme can be licensed under GPL. Is that even possible?

      Update 2: Okay, I got it already. The license itself is open source and free to use.

      WOW! I had no idea about this!

      Only picked up the theme a few days ago and I love it - scared to use it in case the site has indeed been hacked hope there is not any holes in the theme.

      What I do notice however is that Wordpress 3.0 basic them looks VERY much like Thesis.

      How come they are sueing them?

    It would be advisable for Thesis users to switch to ThemeHybrid, a wordpress framework theme that is free (with the option of paying for support from the theme's creator):

    No, the site shows clearly that it hasn't been hacked

    I think they are trying to upgrade to wordpress 3.0 or 3.0.1 and their database crashed

    Lets see if they post something about this

    I had the same thing happen to me (I saw it down when it was hacked). Basically you download some virus, it gets into programs like filezilla and uploads random files. Those random files, basically mess up your main index file.

    But, the hack, is messed up, so it just gives the HTML error.

    That's what happened to me anyway

      Actually, it doesn't upload random files but the files containing stored passwords inside filezilla. It is advisable to change all worthwhile passwords after recovering from a virus.

    I am pretty sure they would have lost as the Lic agreement states GPL so you can argue till the cows come home but this is the lic.

    As for comparing there is heaps of cases similar where they lost also. The Lic is pretty straight forward. Its GPL which means anything you develop on top also has to be GPL.

    "Copyleft is a play on the word copyright to describe the practice of using copyright law to offer the right to distribute copies and modified versions of a work and requiring that the same rights be preserved in modified versions of the work."

      Not really. The GNU is over 20 years and the legalities of the GPL have never truly been tested.

      Sure, there have been lawsuits, but they've all been settled out of court.

        Don't get me wrong I love it - just had no idea there was so many services to pick from.

    i have tested thesis, hybrid and headway....

    go with headway if you don't like to code and all that ... its very user friendly and powerful.... build whatever you wanna build fast.... i love it...

    go with thesis for something in the middle (between hybrid and headway)

    go with hybrid, especially if you like to code.....
