Im scared to blog, pay for Word Press?

So I have read a few threads where people talk about their FREE blog platforms being shut down. Others agree and say, "what did you expect from a free program?" or "any internet business owner is dumb to trust a free site"

So, this is IM (at least for me starting out)
Create a product or promote an affiliate product and link
Then drive traffic to that link

But if I cant blog with blogger or squidoo, do I use word press and pay for a domain?? I have found my niche and know my products, I just dont know where to PUT THEM!!! So paid website vs free blog...

I do not want to go into a big speel about Blogger verse a self hosted Wordpress blog because the self hosted Wordpress blog will win every time. Do not ever put your main money site in someone elses hand you are asking for trouble.

Case in point: Moneymakerinfo.blogspot.com was shutdown by Blogger last time I checked which was a few days ago it was a good blog. He ranked number 1 for very lucrative keywords like make money online etc...

He had over a thousand blog posts over 4-5 years time. So much work to trust in someone elses hands and see what happened?

I will leave it there and let you ponder on why to go the self hosted Wordpress route.

    Good luck!

If you can afford it, get your own domain and hosting.

If not, try to come up with $10 for a domain name. Then, use the domain name for a blog on Blogger. Keep a copy of everything you post. Play by Blogger's rules.

If your site should get taken down, you still control the domain name and still have a copy of the content, so you can get up and going elsewhere. And, if you've built backlinks to your domain name, then you still have those wherever you go.

Dan's content is irregularly read by handfuls of people. Join the elite few by reading his blog: dcrBlogs.com, following him on Twitter: dcrTweets.com or reading his fiction: dcrWrites.com but NOT by Clicking Here!

Dan also writes content for hire, but you can't afford him anyway.

Using a free blog is like renting ..you will never own the real estate....If you are going to spend time writing content, promoting and building traffic to a site then I think its best that you own the real estate.

This way you can sale it down the road if you wish ...with a free blog you own nothing and are at the risk of the provider

If money is an issue you can check out this thread here on WF ...JB can get you set up with a domain ...hosting ...and a website ..for only 1cent

      Hope this helps

Yes I will be typing everything in word first on my computer THEN upload it in my niche area.

I think I want to avoid blogger all together. I obviously dont have time, skills, or money to actually have my own website. One like bestbuy.com with tabs and stuff.

I have money for hosting, I just dont know where or how to get my written documents/articles on the net.

Don't EVER use 'third party' sites such as Blogger and Wordpress.com if you are in the Internet marketing niche, or related commercial niches. Especially if you are new to the game.

Such sites are fine for most other things such as socializing, hobbies, interests, family and/or making contact sites and so on. If you want to use them to generate money either directly or indirectly, you really have to know exactly how to go about it. Otherwise, expect to lose your account(s) at some point in time!

To sum up the posts already made: You must have your own domain and you must have your own hosting. Purchase your domain from one provider and your web hosting from another. NEVER purchse both from the same provider. Any decent webhost with cPanel will enable you to install wordpress and blogger type blogs on YOUR OWN account with the minimum of effort. They'll even provide simple instructions on how to install them.

Search to find the best providers at the prices that you can afford.

Just my thoughts and best of luck,

            Regards,
            Jeff.

plus you can sign up at hostgator for only $0.01
    www.hostgator.com/404

but if you really dont want to spend the money on hosting you can look at free hosting like 00webhost, byethost, or freehostia

keep backups because likely you will eventually get shutdown and told that you have to become a paying customer to keep your site. Still, something you can do until then. i did it for a month or two until i got my first paycheck then i bought hosting.

You've had some sound advice here. You can save money on a number of fronts. You can save money on the domain name by: 1. Wait for a .99 special at GoDaddy. They seem to have one every month. I'm waiting for an August special myself. If you're in a hurry, here's a website with a lot of GoDaddy discounts: GoDaddy Discount Codes - Page 276 - NamePros.com

    Clarification:
When they say "free" wordpress blog - they refer to the wordpress.COM site where you can register for a free blog hosted by them. Do NOT use that. Period.

You download the free software from wordpress.ORG and install it on your own host and domain.

Many people mentioned already: most hosts offer a script called Fantastico that will do the installation for you, you don't even need to download anything.

Goddady is a crappy host. You can buy a domain there BUT (as it was said) do NOT host your domain with the same company.
Where you buy a domain = is a registrar.
Where you by a place to store your site on the net = is a host company.

Some offer both services but you should never have everything in one place.

Do you read all the posts (pay attention to what Jeff posted!)... or you just make posts randomly?

I think you are confused because Wordpress.com is free. You can get an account on there and start blogging; however, because they host this, you are still at their mercy if they pull the plug on your content. Wordpress.com is similar to Blogger.com, Squidoo, etc. It's not a bad idea to make a quick blog on Wordpress.com because the dashboard is very similar to what you find with hosted Wordpress, and you can get a feel for the real deal.

Now, the actual publishing platform Wordpress is free as well. What you need to do is get a hosting account, then upload Wordpress to your domain. I can't think of any hosts that don't have the option to do a free install of Wordpress on your domain. Most hosts have Fantastico, which makes installing Wordpress a breeze. I'm sure that you could find a video tutorial either on this forum or on YouTube how to install Wordpress.

And don't get your hosting from GoDaddy unless you want a headache. I use HostGator myself; and someone posted a coupon for your 1st month of hosting from HG for a penny. Great deal---grab it!

If you need anymore help, just ask.

If I have several WP sites and they use different plugins and themes, when upgrading later to a newer version, would I have everything blocked because one site would not be compatible with the latest release?

That question doesn't really make sense. I like to think I understand even the weirdest questions about WP... but this is too much even for me

        What is "blocked"?
What is not compatible with what?

Maybe getting a basic understanding how WP (and PHP+database based dynamic sites, in general) work - would be of help. Although I understand not everybody wants to learn that kind of geeky stuff and I am fine with that, too.

You have site ABC. WordPress is installed on that domain with plugins at themes. You upgrade that WP script when the time comes. Done.
Now you go to your next XYZ site, which also has WP installed with its own themes and plugins. You upgrade your WP script to the latest on that domain. Done.
Move on to your third site... etc.

Definitely go with a self-hosted Wordpress blog. Not only do you get your very own domain (better for SEO purposes if you pick the right one), you have control over the hosting and do not have to worry about Google or Squidoo shutting your blog down for going against their TOS (which is always subject to change).

It's pretty inexpensive, with a domain just under $10 per year and hosting ranging from about $5-$10 per month depending on the type and how much you pay in advance. I can't really think of any other type of business out there that can be started on such a shoestring budget.

Buy a domain and hosting. You'll be glad you did in the long run. No one can delete it except the host if you break their TOS.
