WordPress ?s please help-taking action

So I am almost there. I am working on my articles/blog posts. I am curious about my setting up stage.

Plan: Buy a domain (where?), get that domain hosted (Ive been told separately than where i bought it? and where?), install word press software, and now I have come across this issue:

Installing the word press platform on a bare link. Are there sites that have one click install or automatic updates? I am not very website or html savvy. If I update my blog will I lose my subscribers? If so, how can I save that information prior? And, would word press security updates ruin the blog?

Thank you for your time,

Brian

I am using name.com , namecheap or moniker for domain registration.

Name.com has coupon code "FREEWHOIS" for free whois protection.

I have my own VPS for hosting. If you want to host many domain (specially autoblogs), go for a VPS. Burst.net offers cheap linux VPS. Look for cPanel as your hosting control panel, I find it best for Linux server.

For wordpress installation, you can either use fantastico or try my tool (it will offer a lot more than just basic installation) from my signature.

You won't lose all your data when you upgrade your wordpress blog. Don't worry about that.

Have you already purchased hosting, or still looking for it?

I buy my domains from Namecheap. Never had any trouble with them and you can usually find a coupon to get the domains a little cheaper, (think this is pretty standard though).

You should go for a host that offers the best customer service. Seriously if you're not very tech savvy, you will need to get in touch with them at some point so find one that excels in customer support. I use a couple of different hosts and if I am setting up what I plan on being an important authority site as opposed to a quick niche site, I host it with the guy I've known for years. No 'unlimited' anything and definitely not the cheapest option but for me, it's worth it for the support value.

Installing WP is a breeze. Most control panels offer Fantastico but to be honest I don't see why folks use this when installing it manually is so easy. And I am a total technophobe so I just figure if I can do it anyone can.

Once you've installed it WP itself will tell you when it needs updating and you can do it automatically from your dashboard. Just remember to backup your database before you do so that if anything goes wrong you can restore everything back. Again, don't worry about the backup procedure. You can install the WP database manager plugin and have regular backups emailed to you whether you're updating or not.

Updating your blog will not lose your subscribers. Nor should installing the wp security updates, though I have in the past lost one of mine when updating to a new version of WP. Which is why you should always do a backup before you update!

I use namecheap.com for domains. Reputable company and easy to manage. Good prices.

I often use Fantastico to install Wordpress, but use 1 click update inside Wordpress panel to update and you don't lose anything by updating except maybe a plugin or two that hasn't updated to be compatible with the new version of Wordpress. I normally don't update for several months after Wordpress releases a new update. That way, my plugins are normally compatible by then and any bugs in the new release are fixed.

Always buy the domain from one company and webhost service with another company. Having both services with one company gives that company too much power. They can totally shut you down for almost any reason.

If you buy a domain with one company and webhost with another gives you the upper hand at controlling your domain or website from being taken down.

I use namecheap for domains and hostgator for webhosting.

In answer to your last question, if you update your blog, you will lose no subscribers...

As everyone else I also recommend to use NameCheap.com as your domain name registrar.

In terms of hosing, I use GVO as they have super fast and advanced support, and it will help you if you are not experienced with technical stuff.

In terms of Wordpress installation, GVO uses cPanel as a hosting platform, and there you will find Fantastico installer. It will allow you to install wordpress blog with one click.

In terms of subscribers, if you will use GVO for hosting, then the package will also include the auto responder services.

To answer your questions completely, Wordpress blog updates will not have anything to do with your subscribers, so, no, you will not lose them.

        I hope this helps.

I recommend Godaddy for domain purchasing, Hostgator for hosting.
For the wordpress installation you can use fantastico or download from the official website the script, then upload it and reading carefully the instructions you will understand how to put the wordpress up.
    Other questions..you can ask here.
    Good luck!
