Having a picture of yourself ( or not ) on the WF

Hi everyone,

Finally, I just remembered what was the question I wanted to ask all night to fellow WF members.

I kept postponing it cause there were so many interesting topics to read.

Well, here it is.

I haven't made a scientific survey out of it, but I noticed that some WF members have a picture of themselves as their avatar, some have something else, some simply don't have any avatar.

I uploaded a picture of me a few days ago.

My question is, do you think it's good or bad business practice to have a picture of yourself on your posts/sites ?

Just curious.

Philippe

Hi, yes I do definitely believe that it is good business practice to show your face online, it helps greatly with building trust etc. I'm currently in the process of uploading one as we speak actually.

It just depends on how you want to do business. Some of the major players here do use pics and some don't. Example: Allen Says does not. It doesn't seem to hurt him any

    I don't because I can't find one I like.

    Holla,

Putting a pic in the profile so that others can see you isn't it bad coz it doesn't effects your privacy & your brand value.

You will not find my pic as I feel a clear profile presents a clear view about what you comment, as I comment on many threads, I do get thanks for it. None of them demanded me to put my pic in my profile.

I have been using forums for last several years but found it really surprising that most admins don't even put their pics back.

I believe that picture helps you brand yourself and I do know that many people this this whole branding via avatars things is overrated but I don't think that's the case at all.

I am like George in that I can't find one that I like - I tout myself as a tattooed grandmother on my sales page and as it is a true depiction I think it better to stick with avatars or nothing at all. If people must see what I look like they can always visit my facebook profile - they won't find anything startling though

Brainwave - profile pic is of one of my tattoos - don't think it will do much for me in terms of professionalism or anything like that, but then my talent is words not pictures so hopefully it won't matter, lol and my posts will stand out

Some of us are shy. I'm wondering whether some something like a panther or other jungle animal would be right for me. I'll one day see something I like and post it.

I think its good to place a pic of yourself there so ppl can see you ... in my case im so keen i give it "two thumbs up "

On your website (business) it depends on the type of business you are running

Top websites like Joel Comm, Mike Litman have their pics up so i spose its upto you ...

Always use a picture of yourself whether it be on a forum like this, your website/blog or on your EzineArticles account as it helps brand yourself and your readers can relate a lot better to you if they can actually see what you look like.

I think having a picture or any kind of image helps people to recognize you.

I know when I am reading a thread I always take a quick glance ant the left to see the avatars as I have come to respect the opinions of many here and when I see their avatar I stop to read their post. That's not as easy with people that don't have them.

I think if you are selling stuff to people here, then having your own photo up helps to lend trust. At least I hope so because I sure don't have mine up to show off the way I look!

I don't want the bosses where I work to know what I am doing which is pursuing IM so I can quit my J-O-B. Too many prying eyes where I work always checking. Since I need my J-O-B income right now, I'm not able to put up my picture or use my real name because of that reason.

I personally dont think it matters, i dont use one as most people know me as my username here rather than my real name.

also i work in full time employment and dont really want people seeing what i do online.

Everyone comes out with the use a pic and brand yourself but not everyone wants to brand themselves.

These discussions come up all the time and i personally am not going to be forced into the rubbish idea that everyone says "you must have a picture".

I do pretty well with my IM busniess and have never used one on anything

Profile picture or not, doesn't necessarily stop you from making money, but having a pic most certainly helps or at least there is no harm in having your pic online on forums or sales letters.

I've never had my picture on my sales letters and as for WF, I had my avatar since the day I joined but changed it last week to my pic.

Why? no particular reason. Just like George, I couldn't decide which one to upload and couldn't be asked to 'think' about it

I actually started a thread on when I uploaded my pic, but there was too much Baldy action going on and chicks went crazy, so you won't find that thread no more.
