I wanna quit my 6-figure info business. Anyone doing other types of Internet Businesses here?

hi Warriors,

I am wondering if anyone here is making a healthy
income other than selling information products?

I've been selling information products for a few years
now in the Chinese market, and am now making a
healthy 6-figure income.

But I don't just want to stay in the info product market
forever. Although It's good selling info products, the cost
is low and the mark up margin is high. Nevertheless,
I want to explore more business models on the internet.

Actually, I am not going to quit my 6-figure info product
business. In fact, I will expand on it to even the English
Internet world now instead of just the Chinese, but I want
to put less energy in it and more energy in other types of
Internet Businesses.

I wonder if anyone is making it in e-commerce business
or even Web 2.0?

If anyone replied to my Web 2.0 thread earlier, you
would probably remember that I found a Chinese forum
that has around 90 000 members that I want to buy.

Apart from that, I also want to start an e-commerce
site selling Martial Arts supply from China.

Hope I can make some friends who are running Web 2.0
and/or e-commerce sites so we can exchange ideas
and be helpful to each other.

Regards,

Terry Ma

Terry, your post seems to be all over the place I must say.

Your titles says you want to quit, your post says you aren't going to quit and you go from web 2.0 to martial arts

If your making a lot of $$ whats the problem exactly?

It's not my place to say I guess...perhaps you feel what you're doing is not fulfilling enough?

    Could you please explain

    Thanks

    Ernie.

      hi Ernie,

To be honest, I really don't think 6-figure is a lot of money.

In the English world, there are people making 7-figure, in some
cases even 8-figure selling info products.

Look at Eben, the doubleyourdating founder, making 8-figure
selling his info-products. In fact... I didn't feel like to divulge
it, but I'm also in the dating info product market in the Chinese
market just like Eben in the English, the only difference is,
the Chinese info product market is NOT nearly as big as the English.
Moreover, it's also not as matuered as the English as well.

One more reason... I didn't feel too comfortable when people
I meet in my world, asking me what I do, and when I tell them
Internet Business, but I am not comfortable that I am selling
products that teach people how to be a pick-up artist. You
know, it's really not that proud to admit this in the Chinese
world, at least I don't think so myself.

Actually, prior to this thread, I hardly ever tell people
I make money on the Internet at all.

Not just not to the Offline folks, but not even to other Warriors
here, I tell them I'm making zilch and am only barely surviving.

      That's because if I tell them I'm making a 6-figure, it's
natural people will ask what market I'm in, and it's not
that I don't want to tell them and afraid they steal my
share of the market, that is actually not to be worry
about. But it's that there's a possibility people might see
      me as a womanizer.

So rather then being misunderstood as a paranoid marketer
trying to hide from people, I chose to tell them I am not
making any money at all straight up front to anyone I talk
to. This way at least they don't think I'm trying to hide
anything from them and would talk to me more freely. At
least this is what I think.

Although, some would think I am over-sensitive to this issue,
but to me, I feel more comfortable not being looked at as
a womanizer. You will have to do a lot of explaining to people
if they see what I sell.

That's why, if I have some other Internet Business, then
I can easily tell them what I do.

But of course, it's NOT just about what people think,
I do want to explore more options.

Because if you look around, the really big Internet websites,
      they're either doing e-commerce (Amazon.com) and/or Web 2.0
      (Blogger.com)

I just have some interesting ideas in these areas, and am
wondering if anyone is doing these things here. Since we're
in different world, different language market, I don't think
we are really competitors. So I'm not afraid to tell people
      what I do here.

      Regards,

      Terry Ma

  • I wouldn't ever recommend lying to anyone, ever.

If you're truly not proud of what you're doing, then you should simply shut the doors on the business, and say good-bye to the income.

    It is that hard? Yes.

Is there another option? Change your business -- figure out how you can be proud of it.

It's not the info marketing business that's the problem. Info marketing is probably the best business model on earth, as far as I'm concerned.

But if you're selling information that don't make you feel good about who you are as a person, then as you can see, even if you're raking in six figures, you will feel miserable. And life is too short for that.

Contrary to popular opinion it's NOT all about the money.

By making this post, I think you have answered your own question.

Start up a "Global" Chinese translation business then run a WSO for it to turn info products from English language to Chinese.

Convert Sales pages, PDF reports, over-dub video/audio... anything that requires translation.

You'd receive endless requests for language conversion if you were able to explain the market viability for translated info products in China.

I have researched the Chinese market and I know it's massive with tonnes of potential... if only you could provide more details about how to tap into the sweetness of that money tree, you'll become the next Eben or even better, motivation for someone else to become the next Terry Ma.

This way you own/operate a language translation company for infopreneurs instead of being an infopreneur.

If your information business is providing good quality and content to others, you should be proud of what you are contributing. A lot of people would be grateful for a quarter of what you have. I am not sure I understand where you are coming from.

Ok, my first posting disappeared while submitting. This one will be shorter.

    Terry,
I think the problem you are having is just in the way you are explaining what you do to others.
You need to explain in a way that not only are you comfortable with, but makes you proud.
If it is your dating site that makes you uncomfortable then there are several options to solve this problem.
    You can say:
" I am an internet consultant"
    or
"I provide an exclusive site and club that allows unattached people to discretely find the right mate"
    or
"I help unattached people find the right mate without them going to bars or clubs."
I could go on for a while and give you several that you could be proud to tell folks you meet what you do.
Another easy fix is to just start another unrelated site such as selling Martial Arts supplies as you mentioned above.
Then you could say " I sell or provide Martial Arts supplies to customers all over the world using the internet".

I think you are correct in your expanding to other markets to increase your income using your current model.

Now on to my personal observation and take on this:
I think you are just uncomfortable explaining what you are doing and there are easy fixes to that.
What I don't understand is that folks come here to just try to make the kind of money you describe above. Six figures is big no matter where you live.
If you want to come here to learn how to make the 8 or 9 figures you want then I have no problem. You should get many ideas and help here.
I just have a problem with you bitchin about explaining to others how you make your living. You are knocking the same vehicle that allowed you to earn such a nice income.
Again, folks come here to learn just that. I am sorry to say that most will never make it.
I sense that your income was a fluke or easily made. You say that you don't think that six figures is that much. It sound to me like a spoiled brat bitchin to be given more.
I think if you worked at this very long to achieve this income that you would not brush six figures off as "not being that much".
I hope you can appreciate what you have achieved and I hope you continue to grow. But don't bitch about the vehicle that got you there.
I have respect even for folks who earn that kind of money even with porn sites.
I respect what you have accomplished. I don't respect the fact that you seem to not appreciate what it is that you have done.
I know in your culture it may be frowned upon the things I have said. Well, you came to my culture and I give my responses in relation to what I see and try to help. So, I am sorry if I offend you.
But, grow up and realize what you have.
    Wishing you continued success.

I know Tom Hua has a business that can assist with this.
