Get A Coach or Roll Up Your Sleeves And Go To Work. Which Is Better In Internet Marketing?

I am looking forward to seeing which answers come up. My question is, what is better for the newbie, to roll up his sleeves and go to work by himself, or to get a coach?

I have read where some people make a lot of money without any coaching. And I also know of some who paid for coaching and do not benefit anything for it.

Personally I paid a shameful amount on my first two or three courses etc. So much so that I am embarrassed to say.

Now the thing is I know that I can learn, and while I was doing the IM coursework the instructors told me that I was doing well in understanding and follow up etc, but their methods were not successful for me. But the thing is these same people make a lot of money everyday. What I am so embarrassed about losing over the course of a year, some of these people make in two days.

So what do you think? Which is better?

    You obviously know the basics, and this is a great place to learn about anything specific you may have questions about. My advise would be to try things out which you have learned, and if you need any more help on specific issues then search here before spending money on expensive courses...

    Personally, I enjoyed learning on my own. I could guide my learning.

    Some people prefer a coach.

    It just depends what you feel is best for YOU because there's not a one size fits all solution in this industry, for anything.

    Roll up your sleeves. Coaching may be a good option once you've found your preferred method of Internet marketing, but to get there most of us need a few failures first. You'll often hear people saying that you should follow your passion. While that's true, your passion may not necessarily lead you to the right method. For that, you need to try a few things.

    I've always enjoyed writing, so blogging and article marketing are the best fit for me, personally. Others have much better success with PPC. There are many, many ways to make money on the Internet. Once you've found the method(s) that work the best for you, then ask yourself if you would benefit from coaching.

      I think that it can be useful to do both.

      Roll up your sleeves and get stuck in to learn what you can and get started then get some coaching to refine what you have done if you need it.

      There is coaching and coaching. I got my money back from the credit card company because one coaching company did not deliver. But happily I have had other coaching that was excellent.

      To find a good coach you just have to search around for some of the successful internet marketers and find out whose coaching program they went on.

      You need to do both, but . . .

      When you are rolling up your sleeves you need to know what to do and have a defined plan laid out and not just flutter around like a hypoglycemic butterfly accomplishing nothing.

      When hiring a coach, make sure he/she has the runs on the board and can prove it. Interrogate them as you would when hiring a new employee. Don't accept that their presence on forums such as this one means they are any good - make them prove it.

      Check out their references, do they have a free or low cost trial period, what guarantee do they have, can you talk to their clients - all of these and more are things you must consider.

    Just start talking to people... you will get some traction. It's amazing what happens when we stop intellectualizing, and just start making offers to people.

    I have a friend who claims he cant function, or sleep at night, if he breaks his routine of asking at least ten people per day for money, and he always has it.

    His Jewsih dad taught him that not a day can go by that you didnt make a profit...

    And come hell or high water my friend pulls money every day from 10 different directions.

    Just start asking people for money.

    Most of the coaches I know (myself included) got to the point of coaching by rolling up their sleeves.

    A good coach will help you avoid mistakes and make better choices but you miss out on the learning experience of failing and retrying.

    If you can afford the money for a coach hire one.
    If you can afford the time and money for trial and error roll up your sleeves

    I flew to Atlanta a few days ago to attend a StomperNet conference on Internet marketing. At the end of the expensive 3.5 day course, the group of 8 speakers answered questions for about an hour. Near the end, Brad Fallon, the organizer and head of StomperNet, said, "I haven't heard a single question here that isn't already covered in the StomperNet forums."

    I think that some people rely too much on coaches and think too much, but a coach is useful in a 30 minute weekly conversation. We mostly need to roll up our sleeves, and my time in a plane might better have been invested on Warrior and StomperNet forums.

    I would definitely get a coach. I've spent a couple of years learning on my own because I couldn't afford one and it has been a very loooooong process. If you get a coach not only do you make yourself accountable to achieve results but the probability of success is quicker as you model someone who has already succeeded. Its making the decision of which business model you want to learn that is the key then finding a coach who can teach you it.

      I can see getting a coach or some kind of help when you are first starting out so that you get a good understanding and foundation. But ultimately I think you should be the one running your business yourself and not depending on others to keep you going. It's good to know someone or somewhere to turn for help down the road if you have concerns, but really, it should be your mission to learn what you can and run your biz on your own.

    The right coach can help you sidestep obstacles and make money more quickly.

    If you watch videos by the prospective coach, you can get a feel for whether they are the right one for you. As you have already figured out, you may have to dump a few before you find the right one.

    Some coaches may offer you a short phone interview where they give you some insights so you can "try before you buy."

    Also look for people who offer a 30 day money back guarantee. This will give you a way to recover your money if it doesn't work out.
