Do Use a Spell check....It is affecting your sales!

A bunch of poor spelling articles -> looks unprofessional -> Can affect your sales.

I know this is obvious but i see so many sites with basic spelling errors.

I continue to see websites and blogs which have not been spell checked and have basic spelling mistakes in. Make sure that you have spell checked your blog posts and content before you upload it live.

Having poorly spelt posts and articles will lose you creditability and trust, and people will view your blog as unprofessional, so make sure you do spell checks for all the content that you post out. Or you can alternatively get it proofread by a native English speaker, who can check each post and correct any spelling or grammar issues.

A story of mine - 6 years ago I had a sales letter put up, to try and sell a product and I was so eager to have it uploaded on the net fast that I uploaded it quickly that I didn't even check the spelling on it, or do a proper spell check on it. I just wanted to blast it on there as soon as possible. Then I got a bit busy with some other marketing stuff and the sales letter to see how it would perform. After generating some targeted traffic to the sales letter, Months went on and I got no sales. After 3 more months I still got no sales, but out of the blue I got an email saying "I notice you have loads of spelling mistakes on your sales letter" I was thinking oops, I better run a spell check. I did the spell check and re-uploaded the corrected sales letter. Now after this I started getting a some small volume regular sales (nothing major) but I did get some regular sales, which was without doing any other traffic generating method that I was doing different.

I learnt fro this that the spelling errors were causing the visitors to leave the site without purchasing as they were losing trust due in the fact that the sales letter had spelling mistakes in, and when I corrected it I did get sales.

The moral of the story is do a spell check, spending a bit more time in the preparation stage can make things better and improve conversions later on.

A spell check can be done for Free with Microsoft word, or if you don't have that you can even do it online.

Sometimes simple advise is overlooked, but do make sure you do a spell check.

Spell check is important, but unfortunately the best spell check program can't catch poor sentence structure, weird syntax, or contextual misspellings (for instance, when "advice" is replaced by "advise" -- the spell check won't catch it because both words are in its dictionary).

Spell check is good, but it won't catch many homophones, as I have learned when I have words spelled wrong and find that I still have to go over the copy to correct errors.

spellcheck should be the last step for me. after i check my grammar, syntax and overall flow.

most of the time it's usually checked within those 3. but a spell check is a good thing to have. I think it's more important when you outsource stuff though. articles etc.

    Spellcheck is better than nothing.

Be careful though, don't rely on it as a crutch, thinking that you have done all you need to do before publishing something. As others have mentioned, you have to know the difference between certain words, syntax and basic grammar.

BUT, even more importantly, spellcheckers can't check for entusiasm or how solid your call to action is, for example. Those are critical to success.

To be fair, when all other things are equal, using a spellchecker is a good idea, caveats not withstanding.

    All the best,
    Michael

Great comment. I wrote an article once entitled "You Can Sell It if You Can Spell It
or Write it Right guys. Great observation. I notice this type of thing all the time but it seems to be acceptable in certain IM circles.
