Hi everyone.

Im new here and was looking for some help. I have a martial arts DVD series and have been selling the physical product for a little while, but i want to make it into a downloadable version. The problem is, the files are HUGE (12 DVDs x 3 GB each) so my tech guy says it will be impossible to host on our site as the bandwidth would not allow it. We could probably get the file size down alot (maybe to about 400MB x 12files), but it still would be too much for our site. Can anyone recommend another site that has secure downloads for paid customers only? Other and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

There are many out there, rapidshare etc.. just make sure you review the site before you sign up to anything.. Good luck, with the DVD series.. me know if you need an affiliate in the future.

I've used box.net for files that size.

There are tons of file sharing sites. There's also tons of hosts that offer unmetered bandwidth.

    Hi Tyler,

You may want to have a look at Sell Downloads - DeliverMyFile.com

I'm a little biased as this is a service I built. The most unique part is our pricing structure, which is solely based on file size and transfer. Depending how the math works out it could be the best deal for you.

Actually, I'm curious just how the math WOULD work out, so let's take a look. A quick bit of research reveals your DVD set is priced at $247. For the sake of this comparison, we'll assume 10 sales in an average month.

    First let's look at Payloadz.com:

Monthly Fee: $14.95 for unlimited hosting
    Transaction Fee: (5% + 0.49) $12.84 per sale
Avg Month Total: (10 sales) $143.35

    Next up, E-Junkie.com:

E-Junkie charges a flat monthly fee based on storage space. For all 12 discs at 400MB a piece, your monthly fee would be $205 regardless of how much you sell.

Now let's see how my service weighs in, DeliverMyFile.com:

12 discs at 400 MB each means a total package is 4800 MB.
    Monthly storage: $11.34
    Transfer fee per delivery: $3.34
Note: transfer fee may be slightly higher if there are failed download attempts with files that big
Avg Monthly Total: (10 sales) $44.74

Well, I guess I'll just leave it at that!

Why make it downloadable to sell?

Right, so if you had a martial arts studio, you would offer people instruction in exchange for membership. That membership comes in month after month after month...

Why not do the same thing with your videos? Now, I'm assuming you have the ability to produce similar content on a regular basis with this. However, if you get people paying month after month, setup a video streaming site and then watch your bandwidth numbers and see how much bandwidth each user consumes, then work that cost into your membership.

A year from now, you'll be happy that you did

You can host the files on amazon s3. You'll be able to make limited downloads that expire, and you only pay monthly for bandwidth used - so factor that into the cost.

You can use s3 for a membership site with the videos as well.

Here's what you might consider - set up a paid membership site. Drip release videos that can be viewed online weekly, and downloaded as each is released.

Leave the "full download option" alone. Let those who want the whole series order through kunaki.

Yes there are few websites available where you can upload your files for free. But kindly decrease the size of your files first. The website is rapishare.com, here you can upload the files for free and can these files with you customers and clients. I hope this will help you.

This is a tough one. My recommendation is that you simply hold on to the files until someone buys them. Once you have confirmed the purchase you can email them the large files through a site like yousendit.com or dropsend.

You won't be able to use a regular email address for such a large file but these other sites are very cheap and you can even add on a few bucks to each package to cover the cost of sending the files.

Just a thought, this is how I do things although I've never had to manage quite such a large order.
