Sales page with email sign-up?

My business partner is concerned about putting in an email opt-in form on the sales page of the site...worried it may 'distract' the potential buyer from making the purchase.

I was thinking to offer the form/bonus first...

Example:

'Get this free bonus report if you buy this product...provide us your email address to get the bonus'

Then after they opt-in, show them the sales page.

Make sense?

Or is there a better method to ensure you get both the opt-in and the sale?

Both. Then if he decides NOT to purchase if just selling via the sales page, at least you have captured their email, and you promote this page to them again and again, via an autoresponder.

The email capture is a way of capturing a lead so that you can sell to them via the emails, so I would get the optin and sale.

This might affect initial sales, from the sales page (as they have subscribed) but it can also have a positive affect on your email sales long term.

Yes you will get better results by putting both, as some people will only buy after seeing your sales letter several times.

Yes I find that most sales come later when people have had a chance to read some of your emails and get a chance to feel comfortable purchasing from you.
