301 redirect to unrelated site

So for our business cards I want to have a link to our Facebook fan page and Twitter accounts without giving them those huge URLs that no one would ever bother typing in.

So I've created pages on our website like this:

www.domain.com/twitter
www.domain.com/youtube

and I've 301 redirected them to the appropriate places. Is there any problem with this?

There is nothing wrong with this at all. It is the correct way to do a permanent redirect.

Thanks, I just wanted another opinion. Some one I know said something about it losing rank for www.domain.com if you're 301 redirecting pages to other sites. Always nice to get a second opinion. More would be appreciated too

I would be interested to know if they have any evidence for this.

You need to stop getting advice from that person. They don't know what they are talking about.

          Can you elaborate?

I can definitely see one possible problem and a second may be:

          1. Much like an outbound link, having an entire page devoted to another site would reduce the domain's authority.
          2. Using 301 permanent redirects could be confused with BlueFart strategies.

Any rank you have for www.domain.com/twitter or www.domain.com/youtube will be moved over to the destination of the redirect. Whether or not it will affect "www.domain.com" itself, I'm not sure.
