The use of hyphens for keyword?

Hi Warriors,

I am currently doing some keyword research and I am ready to purchase my domain.

My question is, from past experience does a hyphenated domain name have the same effect as one that doesn't use hyphens?

For example:

Will www.my-keyword-phrase.com rank the same as www.mykeywordphrase.com ?

Thanks.

    Yes.

Regardless of what a lot of people may tell you this will work just fine. Same with .info if .com is taken.

Honestly search engines look more for an overall product rather than a simple hyphen.

Things like keywords in your title, articles and sub headers.

You can even do things like this: www.mykey-wordphrase.com and separate it in different ways. Just make sure you get your keyword for your URL. Doesn't matter how you separate it, and I believe that even putting a 1 or a 0 in there at the end can help you acquire the right domain name.

Check out the link in my signature, this friend of mine has laid everything out so perfectly. He has helped me gain a real understanding and generate a great income.

I started out homeless when I first was talking to him. Now I'm trying to help people make it on their own as well.

This battle has been going on for ages...you will hear strong arguments on both sides...

Here is the short answer: I have never and I have not talked to anyone that has ever has any major problem getting a domain name to rank well because it has a hyphen in it...

Just make sure you are using good SEO and you'll do fine....

If there is a difference in ranking value, it is a very tiny difference. But it appears to be treated equally as far as SERPS are concerned. The only real issue is if you're using the domain to advertise or verbalize. It's awkward for a radio ad to say "visit my-dash-website.com".

I personally think it has no effect on the performance of a website in SERPs. same wording..works for keywords..so dont stress.
