I'd say you should try something else. Amazon doesn't pay that well anyways. Even if you did make a sale, it would be for a few pennies...

    Josh,

You started a post yesterday asking us for help with your Amazon conversions... Come one now, 74 clicks is just not enough info to determine anything! Keep building. Invest in your own domains/websites, think long term, write quality and informative product reviews and you'll be fine.

EDIT: here's the thread I'm talking about http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...n-results.html

When I first used Hubpages, I mainly promote Amazon products but got no sale. Now I turn to Clickbank and start to get sales.

I've had some success with Amazon & HubPages. The key is really to do sub $50 products in the toys and electrical niches. Stuff that plugs into PCs is a good niche.

AdSense, ClickBank and other schemes are much more lucrative though so I only really write the Amazon ones for fun. I had my first $8 AdSense day on HubPages this month. In fact I've had two this month and if my Hubs stick around for 5 years I'm making roughly $1000 a month by writing just 2 Hubs a day. I now realise it *is* possible to make a living from the Hubs!

I've stuck all my Hub secrets in my HubPages eBook (see my .sig).

      Brett,

Haven't read your book yet, but, can you replicate your results on a PR4 website? I know the general consensus is to begin writing on a high ranking site, with pre-established authority, although, there can be certain benefits to writing for a much lower ranked site. (Grabbing hot titles before others do, etc)

I agree with using Clickbank in conjunction.

Also.....there is a series of posts floating around HubPages about a woman who made a few hundred off of HubPages with only 13 or so articles...ever see it?

The truth is, the best use of Amazon is strategically, as a complementary program....as opposed to exclusively. For the $2,500 that Darren earned this month, how much in sales/business did he drive to Amazon? $20,000? $30,000?

It can certainly pay, don't get me wrong...just should, of course, be used in conjunction with other monetization methods....

As a side note....for those who run blogs here, have you ever considered doing a revenue share with your readers?

If you are an affiliate marketer, then I don't see any problem with it. In a sense, all you are doing is driving traffic to the site and playing broker between yourself and Amazon/clickbank/whomever. I don't really understand why you shouldn't focus on this....if you are an affiliate marketer that is....

So what if you are driving $100,000 worth of sales. So what if you are driving $1,000,000 worth of sales. You are an affiliate marketer.

If you want to compete with Amazon, then you could become an eCommerce site, ship the products yourself or dropship...deal with margins, ect...ect...that would be the next step I suppose.

But most successful affiliate marketers wouldn't have an issue with this, given the fact that amazon is a converting machine.

Had to search for it, but I wrote a post showing the difference between amazon and adsense on hubpages. It all boils down to framing an offer right.

    Adsense does not pay

This is one of my newsletters in which I got into "framing" the offer and explained in a little more depth what I did...

It is all a numbers game with HubPages and to manipulate that game into your favor you need a large amount of hubs. June had been my best month to date, until July.

As my stats stood on June 30th I had 642 hubs on HubPages. On average each hub gets 75 page views a month.

    75x642 = 48,150 page views.

That month I moved 434 items for Amazon. That is a conversion rate of just .9%... The key is promoting very specific related products in your hubs and always shoot for products in the $20+ range. I am just going to use the base rate of 6% commissions that Amazon pays (since the ladder system they have set up can be hard to discuss in a forum post).

$20 x 6% = $1.20 per sale (on average) | $1.20 x 434 = $520.80. I made more than that, but I'm not going to divide my sales into the different commission categories for this example. Nor am I going to discuss my Google Adsense earnings or CTR.

In July I added another 75 hubs (was busy promoting my own product), bringing my total 717 and this month so far I have added another 50 in the last seven days. This is a mix of original and unedited PLR content. My goal is to get another 150 hubs done this month, so we will see where I sit when September rolls around.

So yeah, you can make some money with Amazon and having my car payment covered for the next five months is proof of that.

Are you sure your conversion rate is 0.9%.That is very low,but you do make a lot of money. So i guess it is all about volume rather than higher commission.

How I calculate my conversion rate is by taking my hubpages page views and dividing by sales. Of course I could be using my Clicks instead, but I want to know how my sales relate directly to my hubs which is why I use those numbers.

So in that case, yes my conversion rate is less than 1%. If I was to calculate via clicks/sales it would be much higher.

Yeah, I kind of do the same thing. This way, I can assign a $ amount per visitor. For instance, for one of my pages, I know that roughly 400 visitors have to SEE my page per sale if I were to combine CTR with conversion data. That gives me a better impression on how to understand about what kind of traffic I need.

I do keep them separate as well and work on improving CTR (conversion rate is Amazon's job, not mine).

I've skimmed through this thread, and I haven't seen very much mention of backlinking....

Just as a recommendation, just because you write for a PR7 or PR8, I wouldn't fall into the false security of NOT backlinking your articles. Not to brag, but I'm doing on PR4 sites, what some here aren't even doing on PR7 sites....

...I'm not shady like this, but, I could do some quick research, target your article's keywords, and make them rank higher than your Hubs, while using just a PR4 site.....

I'm just saying...don't underestimate the value of back linking. And, just because HubPages is a high PR/high authority site, that doesn't mean that articles can't be targeted and surpassed....

I totally agree with you here but the purpose of a hub is usually more of a traffic funnel or yet another listing on the front page. Plus, if you are one of those really geeky analytical types, you can pull more keywords from them (much in the same way you can with EZA) for potential articles.

Plus, although you aren't shady, if you were, you could also pummel these types of websites with massive amounts of links all at once (ala xrumer or automatic article distribution).

Hubpages does make for a good testing ground.

Hubpages, Squidoo....infobarrel...ezinearticles...they aren't and shouldn't be the mission here...they are just another step in the road.

I definitely don't think your this shady, but even if you did target those keywords to rank higher it wouldn't dramatically affect my sales.

I'm not showing specific information here, but a majority of the views for my hubs come from HubPages itself and not Google. The amount of traffic I get from the "Related Hubs" section on HubPages is huge, more so than Google. When I first started, I was targeting specific keywords, and I do sit atop the search engine for some of these, but honestly that took too long.

To me its all about numbers, numbers, numbers. So I started throwing up PLR content and almost solely do that now. Then head to Amazon to find related products and you can have a hub made in about 6 minutes. More hubs equals more opportunity for sales. I would probably do keyword research if it wasn't free to set these things up.

I know some could care less about the 'revenue share' aspect, as far as adsense, of sites like HubPages...

But, I'd be curious to know just how well your 60% Adsense revenue share is paying if, in fact, a majority of your views are coming from HubPages internally itself, as opposed to Google.....everyday users, of sites like these, are notorious for not really being interested in or clicking ads, simply because they are aware of how things works...

Getting traffic directly from Google is where the money is at....IMHO....

Interesting discussion here. mainstreetcm, it is very cool of you to share your specific figures like that.

Here's a question, how much do you think you would have made if you had 700+ articles on ezinearticles, I would think a lot more than hubpages. I'm just guessing, based on my experience on EZA.

No problem on the figures. They are not exactly specific though, just averages. Amazon commission ladder can drive you nuts when trying to plot stuff out on paper lol.

If I had 700+ articles on Ezine? Maybe more, maybe less. Ezine doesn't really lend itself nicely as a social platform, whereas Hubpages has a huge community actively on the site at all times. As I mentioned in my previous post I admittedly do not get much traffic from Google, and a majority of it comes from the Hubpages community itself.

Personally I have never liked ezine for various reasons, probably because I didn't quite understand it when it first arrived on the scene. Plus HubPages doesn't make you go through a review process, so I can pound out 20 PLR and Original hubs in an evening without fail.

I can say with me writing for Hubpages and being an affiliate with Amazon that I am making sales but I am completing research as well before I write an article.. The key is that you have to target products that people are really interested in and write the articles with good content and since you want people to come to your articles in buy mode, make your article "the pitch page". Make the article as a review or an opinion in your own words. I will say this has helped me a lot and I just started writing sale articles on HP. I target customers that are going to be in buy mode already and that way you can convert to some sales..HP is just a pitch page and using the right keywords and writing unique content will lead them to Amazon to go ahead and buy.. I have 19 orders completed with a lot of clicks coming through since they are targeted customers and sometimes when they come to Amazon, they can order something else which still can be a sale for you..

HubPages says that you can use content that exists on other pages as long as you don't link out to an outside website. You can still promote Amazon products in your hubs. If I want to promote a product through shareasale or commission junction I will create an original article so I can provide links in the text itself.

You also still get paid for Adsense clicks on PLR content as well.
