I hear the religious niche is huge -- anyone in this category?

It might be huge but can it can also be a controversial niche too. Depends what your model of marketing will be.

I wouldn't be surprised.

I bought some products recently at a catholic site.

In big libraries, most of the time, the religious section is as big as the metahysical ( new age, etc... ) section. So, eBooks probably sell.

At the same catholic site, there were videos added daily. Is there a potential for selling religious videos ?

I guess that marriage counseling sells.

I'm not at all an expert on that niche. But I do some Google searches on spiritual matters from time to time : guilt, money, values...

Sorry, I could not resist. This is said with a conservative religious background in my upbringing, which I bear no ill will towards. Just a light joke!

But seriously folks, if you can supply what the market wants in a serious and helpful manner, I see no reason why you couldn't make money in this niche. But of course you'd have to narrow it down a bit from "religious" to a particular religion for one, and than a particular need for a demographic within that religion.

I wouldn't want to try and make money off of people's religious beliefs... Bad mojo there...

Well, a lot of Law of Attraction stuff seems to sell well. Even though it's marketed as "self help", many of the self help books delve deeply into spirituality. Look at how well "The Secret" sold a couple years back.

I had to build a religious portal for a client once. There didn't seem to be any shortage of companies and products to include. Getting relevant AdSense ads was easy as well.

I'm not really in the religious niche, but I am in the Feng Shui niche. Anyone else too?

Like any group it has it's multi-millionaires and growth, but like Kevin_Hutto stated could be bad mojo if you belive in that sort of thing.

Quick, useless bit of trivial information about 10 years ago I was jumping on the Domain Name gold rush and registering any and all things I could think of in with 5 letters or less.com

There I sat, alone in my old house at the time built in 1930, i.e. creaky wooden floors and stone walls. A storm had blown in and it was late, very late at night. Promise this happen... as I was registering up a dozen or so URL's at the time the rocket scientist that I am thought about looking for G O D .com!

I sat there for several minutes while the wind was howling, the thunder booming and the floors creaking (sorry setting up the mood) and I had to dare myself to type the above mentioned letters; G O D

I resisted for several more minutes afraid of what the ramifications would be to do such a thing. Then I did the unthinkable and pressed those 3 little letters into my whois search.

BAM!

a huge thunder boomer rocked me out of my seat! The electrical power all went dark! and I nearly s@#% my pants. I caught my breath and the power quickly returned. My old windows ( i think it was windows 98se) Radio Shack IBM came back to life and I was back online.

Thats it....

And, no I never did see who owned that particular URL and NO to this day I never tried. So please no one here look it up. Seriously, that might be bad mojo!

There are a ton of different religions so I'm not sure a "religious niche" is specific enough but there are certainly enough niches within specific religions as noted by some others here. Do some keyword research to get some ideas (do you have a specific religion in mind?) and then be sure there are buying keywords. Of course there are people buying books, videos, courses, etc. etc. etc. about various religions, you just need to focus in on one. There's also an opportunity for marketing the Christian way, Buddhist way...etc...this is just an example of a much larger opportunity since people of certain religions believe it as a way of life and want to conduct all their business, etc. in that manner. I would think there would be a million opportunities to create beneficial products geared towards a specific religious market.

I wouldn't consider religion a "niche" but a "market".

Is it profitable? Yeah. Always has been. (I'm not saying that from a marketing perspective but an "obvious" one) At the same time if you come off as "in it to profiteer" you'll probably sink. For the serious believer religion is about life and death on an eternal scale. It's about a sense of purpose and reason-- the essence of life. It's a touchy issue.

Your sub-markets would be categorized by main spiritual beliefs... ie. Islam, Christian, Judaism, Buddhism, Atheism, etc. Further these main beliefs can be segmented into almost more niche like categorizations.

The Christian market, for instance, can be segmented to include Eastern Orthodox, Catholic, Lutheran, Anglican, Evangelical, Seventh Day Adventists, Mormon, Jehovah's Witness, COGIC, Assemblies of God, etc.

They can be further segmented by continent, country, region, local congregation, etc. And depending on this segmentation you can find slight differences in beliefs and practices (and thus buying habits).

Trying to tackle the "religious market" is similar to trying to tackle the "business market". Just way too big.

i am thinking of venturing into the Mormon spectrum and be controversial.

depends on what religion.... you can make a killing with physical products in some of them.

Was thinking about getting into this niche with a ebook about my faith.

Either way you need some passion I believe in what ever your pushing.

I think its a personal decision to decide which niche to promote to make money, so if you have decided to promote the religious niche , your free and i think you have gotten some ideas from where you can start.
