My goal is to write 500 articles before the end of the year

I originally was going to set the goal at 1000 articles, but that may just unrealistic for me since I am a slow writer and I type with two fingers. lol (note to self take a typing class) I also enjoy seeing my websites or articles make it to the top Google, so I need extra time for back linking and keyword research. One of my major problems has been sticking with one thing, because all the shiny objects in the WSO section and in my email inbox cause me to jump from one thing to another. Since I did get a nice check from one article I figure I should stick with article marketing for a while. I have already wrote 20 articles in the last 3 days, so only 480 more to go. I am curious to hear any of your thoughts on this goal and if you want to join me in this goal please do.

Make sure you churn out, more quality than quantity. writing 100 great articles is much better, than writing 500 below average articles.

      Great idea!

      A few bits of advice:

      1. Stop thinking about how many you have to write and just WRITE THEM! I used this procrastination technique a lot in the past and it KILLS productivity working things out, because working things out takes time lol.

Just keep at it, and remember to churn out the articles in a way that they all link and compliment eachother.

Mel, with regards to that comment, I'd say it depends. I mean, if you are writing for PEOPLE, then yes. But if you are doing:

      1. A rough and dirty mass article submit
      2. Trying to get as many articles into the EZA "most viewed" list as possible

      then quality is not UBER-important.

Break it down to reasonable size chunks, keep track of how many more you need in what period of time as you go, and ...carry a note book and pen with you wherever you go.

Carrying a notebook and pen will ensure that you never run out of ideas, you will come up with good topics when you least expect it, so be sure that you are prepared.

    500 Articles is a great goal zachary0611,

I think the most I've written in one day is 5. I find the more I write, the harder it is to produce quality articles that get read.

Good luck. I think you should break it down into X per day....maybe even break it up between the weekdays to give yourself a break one or two days of the week. It's definitely doable, but a lot of persistence will be needed. Should pay off though

Comes to less than 25 articles a week - definitely doable. To keep going through the year, I'd suggest just thinking of it as 5 articles a day - 5 days a week.

    Hey,

    Zach,

    good luck.

My advice is, if that's what you're going to do. Become a master at it.

Read everything you can get your hands on about Article Marketing. Learn everything you can about it.

Allen Graves has good stuff so does Mao Flyn. Fabian Tan has a great free ebook about it. All good resources.

Become an authorty on the subject if you're going to do it.

Lock yourself in a dark room for a week and write 200 articles. That will makes things easier in the coming months.
      {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[2430786].message }}
  • I'd think of it as 20 articles a week, rather than a set number per day. That gives you a bit of flexibility about when in the week you tackle writing the articles.

500's a great target, although how achievable it is depends on how much promotional work you're going to do for them. You might also want to consider writing some for articles sites and some for your own site. That will give the opportunity to repeat subjects, which definitely makes the research element easier.

Stephen King, author of bestsellers, stated in his biography that he writes 1000 words per day. If he wrote two articles each day from now until the end of the year, he would write about 300.

I think your goal is too ambitious. You should emphasize quality rather than quantity. Google rules the net and they prefer quantity, but you need not allow them to run your life.

I'd forget the numbers if I were you. I think it's a totally wrong way to think about article writing.

As the web gets saturated with more and more rubbish quality is becoming ever more important. If you can write 499 well-researched, well-written articles so be it. Who cares if you don't reach 500?

If you can "only" produce 200 quality articles, then so be it too. In fact, don't even count... just write.

    Hi Zachary

I'm back on the WF after a long stint away, hard at work, and I'll chime in with my 2c

First of all, congratulations on setting a good target. Most of us fail not because we aim too high, but because we aim too low.

Never be scared to shoot for the stars: you will make it.

Now, you don't say why you need to write the articles. I'm guessing either article marketing or adsense. Whatever it is, I'm sure you have a good monetization plan.

The first step to success in IM is to find a good strategy to follow. The second step is to take MASSIVE action. I will be blunt about: without producing a large quantity of work, you will not get the results you want.

Look, I'll give you an example. I have a fair few sites producing adsense income. I see people saying, hey I have one adsense site but I don't make enough money; or, I have ten adsense sites but I don't make enough money. Do you ever see someone saying, hey I have 300 adsense sites but I don't make enough money?

    Your target is very achievable.

I am now (knock wood) at a stage where I outsource most of my content, but there was a time when I wrote a LOT. I still write what many people would consider a lot - I average 15 300+ word articles per day for my (soon to be) massive site. You get used to it

When I first started out writing articles for clients, I did 20 500+ word articles per day. And hey, I'm still here, I didn't burn out (yet)

The trick is to be a VERY fast content producer. Note, I said content producer - not typer.

The two ways to be fast at producing content are:
    1. Learn to type
    2. Get Dragon Naturally speaking, spend an hour or two training it, and dictate your articles to it.

There are people who claim they do complete 500 word articles in 7 minutes flat, including research and editing. This includes Jason Flanedian - I have 7 minute articles by him, and it's a high quality product.

Unfortunately, I'm still stuck at 15 minutes per article, including research and editing.

There is one research trick I use - do a google query with "keyword site:ezinearticles.com"
It will usually bring up great content! It greatly shortens the time I spend researching.

Another very important thing to do is to spend 15 minutes before a writing session quieting your mind. Seriously. If you can meditate, meditate. If not, just focus on the task at hand, and why you want to achieve it so badly. Imagine the successful outcome - 4 articles in an hour, or 2, whatever your rate is.

    Then get to work.

I tend to take 2minute breaks every half hour to keep from burnout.

I will also take a minute here to talk about quality.

I think quality is extremely important. That's why, on my pet project, I write my articles myself - no outsourcing for this.

    Anecdote: (apparantly it's true)

A community college professor decided to conduct an experiment on practice. She taught pottery, and at the start of the semester, she divided the class up into two groups, A and B. Group A were going to be judged purely on quality. Group B were going to be judged on quantity, how many pots they could make during the entire semester.

At the end of the semester, the professor found that group B, who were focusing on making as many pots as they could, consistently created the most high quality pots.

Now, I don't want you to think that I'm saying to just keep churning out garbage. I just want to point out that practice may not make perfect, but it certainly helps get there.

Same as ash107 ... I outsource my writing and link building (I may have a slight advantage here though) ... I am not the best writer, when I produce content I prefer using video and I leave the writing up to my team.

You have to play to your strengths

Good luck with your goal, but I do recommend you think about working smarter not harder. Writing 5 articles a day would take a bit of time. Is this where your time is best spent?

I agree with Magic Mel, it's more about quality than quantity... also, be sure to have a solid plan of what you want to do or achieve with your articles... submit them to ADs or add to your own site, or mix? Hey...not for nothing but I have a technique that I use that basically goes like this...

    1. Find a popular "Top 10 ways to do x,y, and z" on a subject you are writing about.

    2. Take each main point and break it up into a "3 ways to get better at x, y, and z" and then write an article elaborating on that one main point from the Top 10 article in point 1.

    3. Go down your list and if my math is correct you'll have 10 articles. Then you can go do this again for each of your new 10 articles....3 articles per 10 babies and you have 10 "baby" article (from parent article in Point 1) and 30 "grandchild" articles.

Voila...massive production and since you have the research mostly done you'll be able to crank this out faster.

    Good luck with your goal

    Cheers,

    Brad

Quality trumps quantity any day. I would not count them. If I counted the number of articles I've personally written this year it would be over 1000. The key is to write informative content. You want your reader to fill as they gained something from reading your articles so that they come back for more. If they don't read the whole thing then you wrote it for nothing.

      traffic

Are you writing arcticles about your niche and then including your keywords and your domain name and URL in them?

I am trying several different niches I do have a couple of websites I write articles for, but the rest will be direct linked using domain redirects

Are you submitting these to article sites?

      Mostly ezinearticles and articlebase

Do you have someone doing this for you?

No, but feel free to write some for me

Also how does this help seo and rankings.

Article directories are considered authority sites, so it is easier to see your article on the top of the search engine and they give you valuable backlinks if you have a website

Get it up to 5 or 6 per day so that you can rest one day out of a week. You can do them everyday yes, but if you are homo-sapien and not a machine you will get tired.

Not only will you get tired, but the quality of your work will drop.

With no breaks you will also find that it takes you longer to get the articles completed. So if you work from 9 am to 9:15 am and do 4, by the time you are about 45 days in it might just be taking you until 10 to do those same 4.

If you can continue at your present rate (20 articles in 3 days), you should be able to hit your 500 article target quite easily. 20 articles in 3 days works out to slightly over 6 articles a day. Let's just say that you can do 5 articles a day, conservatively. That'd mean you could accomplish your goal in slightly under 100 days. This is very feasible, but just remember to keep your eyes averted from the bright, shiny objects in the WSO section!

What is the end result that you hope to achieve?

Are you going to be happy at the end of a year saying I have written 500 articles?

I would hazard a guess and it's only a guess because I don't know you but what you want to really achieve is some kind of financial reward.

If you don't know what one article can bring you how do you know what 500 will achieve?
Have you a well thought out strategy for monetizing this work?

Sorry to be hard on you but it can be a hard business, if you don't want to make your answers public then you can always PM me and I will try and help you out as you seem determined to succeed (no charge by the way lol)

    Kind regards

    John

The main goal is to make money. I have been making 50 to a 100 dollars a month for the last year with exception of one 2000 dollar month. I figure if I am not making at least 500 dollars a month by the end of the year then I think I am going to reconsider trying to make money online.

Several people in the internet marketing and business world that I respect talk about taking massive action. This is the most action I can take right now.

As for as numbers go my 20 articles before this experiment do not give me a good enough of a litmus test to work with, but I think 500 articles will.
I am trying to pick off all the low hanging fruit with seo.

Alright I got 3 done tonight only 463 left

Congratulations on setting yourself a target. It holds you accountable. I am lucky if I get two articles a day done. Mind you I have a lot of other tasks to deal with on a daily basis.

Goals are good. I like the advice of many here. Once these articles are on your site, have you thought of grouping them together and selling them to others? That way you can monetize twice.
Good for you. Persist. And reward yourself too when you accomplish little goals that get you to your big goal.

How about you outsource the whole thing, get all 500 articles done by next week through outsourcers, and focus on how you're going to market these articles, and for what purpose?

500 articles before the year runs out is very much attainable. If you are determined, if you are looking to get real result from article marketing, you want to go for quality first before any other thing.

alright got 4 done so I am down to 459 writing is starting to get a little easier

Some the more well known internet marketers in here have at least 2000 articles written, so I think I am heading in the right direction.

I am converting for my previous niche before this experiment but I have yet to convert for any new niches
