New to IM, but curious...

Hi All,

I am very curious about IM. I am actually a freelance web developer, but curious about IM being an alternative and exciting additional source of revenue. I have looked at it a little and see there is a great mixture of "snake oil", "Scam" and also genuine stuff.

I am actually a very ethical and professional person and would not entertain getting involved in anything dubious.

I have purchased "Traffic Travis" to help a client with their SEO work so am familiar with Mark Ling. I was certainly impressed with the S/W.

I would really appreciate any views on getting into this business or not as the case may be..

Thanks in advance,

Sam

    Hi Sam,

    Welcome to the forum.

Despite all the hype and scammy stuff out there, Internet Marketing or online business isn't fundamentally different from conventional business.

Lots of these products focus on techniques, but ultimately the same thing occurs.

Money is traded for something of value.

Given that you are already tech savvy I think you should definitely look into leveraging those skills as an additional income stream. You've already mentioned SEO, which I and many other Warriors have had great success in monetizing. Its an in demand service that clients are happy to pay good money for, as I'm sure you're aware.

Feel free to ask any questions you might have, but after years trawling through this stuff I'd have to conclude that Internet Marketing its a lot simpler than many would have you believe.

Keep the basics in mind, don't get too bogged down by techniques specifically and I'm sure you'll go far!

    Gavin

    Welcome to the forum.

What I would suggest you do is find someone who is doing really well online and see if they have their own course that teaches others to do the same.

There are GURUS who do this and their training is very good.

You just need to do some research on anyone person and see if their training is really that good.

When you do get in, I really suggest that you make a commitment to success.

    Folks,

What speed in responding ... Thanks... and thanks for the warm welcome.

Daedalus1, thanks for your comments. One of the interesting points is what is the product? One reads a lot about techniques to find the product ie SEO, PPC etc. However these are just routes to the product which is on the destination website ie Video Stock Catalogue (Off the top of my head... I also do online video ) However I guess a saleable product/service is something that is of value to someone. I am still trying to work out how I would feel about reselling someone elses content on a niche such as "dog training"... although I do have a dog, but not the world's best trainer !!

Talfighel, interesting comment about finding a guru. Mark Ling seems good from my experience and he is marketing this AffilioJet product at the moment. I was tempted just to learn the basics. Perhaps use a test niche to see how I got on and then develop my own. Thought I would have a quick chat with you guys to start with....

Oh Finally... some advice on naming. I usually use a trading name for a business venture rather than my own name just in case something goes wong. After all it is my brand. Obviously I am not planning on anything going wrong, but sometimes it pays to be cautious. I see that quite a few IMers use what "seems" to be their own names. Thoughts?

    Thanks again,

    Sam

(P.S Sam is my 2nd name, and I like to think that I am jolly !)

I welcomes you in the world of internet marketing. As you said you are very professional. It is very good thing. Most of newbies at first see knowledge at Warrior forum and get overwhelmed. They try to learn all things at once. While trying to fast they buy any product, system they see. To learn from that product or system they waste their valuable time and if they can not get success then they get disappointed. Most of the newbies leave IM at this stage.

So, be careful and decide first which way you want to go.

After stick to that, repeat your hard work and you will get the result. If you have any problem feel free to share personally to me or at Warrior forum.

Pradeep, Thanks for your kind words.

I have just been having a word with a colleague about what professional bodies exist in this area. Sometimes one wishes to market their "Professional Integrity" through membership of just an organisation. Does any exist in this area?

Also any comments on my naming question:

I would say mark ling is an excellent teacher who's methods work, he just release a product called affilio jetpack, but not sure if it's still on the market.
