Local IM insight appreciated.

I'm new here. I'm about to launch a new niche site but the product is limited only to those residents in my state (licensing restrictions). I'm somewhat familiar with all the IM tactics for a national/global audience but have never done a state specific campaign before.

Does anyone have any insight on how to market to a single state only audience?

    you're going to need to advertise on google adwords to "plumbers new york" instead of just "plumbers" did you research the amount of traffic for local keywords? also you can use plenty of fish or facebook to advertise...i think you can narrow it down by state on each one. also you'll need to target state businesses where your customers go before and after they buy from you. without knowing the niche its hard to give any more help, but hope that gives you some ideas...

      In SEO terms it can be easier.

      Create a whole pile of pages each optimized for search terms with city names added (use the google adwords tool to see what local terms people are searching for).

      You should find it very easy to rank high in the search engines for those local search terms.

          While I do believe living in a place like New York will be more competitive then my area, you'll probably be very surprised at how easy it will be to rank well for local keyword search phrases when you include the city. Even easier if you add the state.

          I worked for one hour to help my local chiropractor rank for two search phrases chiropractor redding, chiropractic redding. One article spun and submitted to a blog network and one other software.

          You can see the video on youtube. Do a search for "one hour seo". My youtube username is netwoozy. I ranked his site on the first page and it's a single page site with an image. That's it.
