How to Manage multiple WP Blogs

Does anyone know how to manage multiple WP blogs EASILY?

I am looking for a way to manage multiple blogs (+200 plus), update plugins, manage comments, and update sites all at one time from one dashboard.

In my search I can across "Manage WP" that can be found at managewp.com.

But I have not heard anything about it and was hoping that someone here knows about it or know of a product or service that I can plug in to that will do what I am looking for.

    3 quick questions:

    1. do you have WP 3 installed? - if yes,
    2. did you enable the MultiSite feature? - if yes,
    3. did you take a look at the Plugins page in the admin?

    There is an option there: Network Activate... (just saying)

      Unfortunately I cannot see an easy way to get this to work over multiple hosting packages.

      Has anyone tried ManageWP yet? Would be intersted in some feedback

        Therein lies the real need and challenge.

        Who in their right mind hosts 200 blogs all on the same IP / host - or subdomains of another.

        Yes wpmu/3.0 can do many blogs - but i suspect the OP query had more to do with the challenges of managing MANY blogs across many domains - cPanel installs, IP's and web hosting service providers.

        GuerillaIM - you may be able to at least minimize your overall admin with the WPMU model and the domain mapping plugins to say 20-30 master blogs vs. 200+ ?

        Wonder if the domain mapping features work across cpanels/ip's ?

        The app being sought may be an elusive unicorn ... here's hoping someone knows of a solution :-)

          Yes, I have several hosting packages. I have tried a few solutions to try and manage them but nothing has hit the spot so far.

          There are solutions out there but everything I have tried has been buggy and a pain in the arse.

        I've played with the demo, and intend to buy it next week after I have finished finding all the domains I will be using with this. (Unless someone mentions something comparable but better).

    Wordpress have 2 versions : wordpress and mu wordpress.
    mu wordpress is a multi blog platform using wordpress .It is similar to wordpress.com
    You can use wordpress mu .

    Update :"WordPress MU is no longer a separate project; it is continuing development as part of the main WordPress branch under the name 'multi-site' or MS." from wordpress mu website.

    The domain mapping works with "empty" domains.

    Very briefly: when you get the domain you will need to edit its DNS settings to actually point to your server IP or CNAME.

    To be able to do this, first you need the create the site in your WP 3 network and then map a domain to it. Or, with an existing blog you will need to import it first into your network and then do the mapping.

    WordPress Plugins and Themes, with added BuddyPress and Multisite Goodness – WPMU DEV - WordPress Plugins, WordPress Themes, WordPress Multisite and BuddyPress Plugins and Themes has a lot of management plugins for WP Mu that i use for my sites.

    But looking at WP ManagerDX - WordPress Blog Installer and Manager with Multiple Blogs Install . thanks for the heads up.

    OK I just logged on to ManageWP and boy, is it ever cool!

    I've got 4 WP sites on 4 different domains (2 different hosting companies). All you have to do is to install the "Worker" plugin (from the ManageWP site) on each blog you want to manage.

    You then login and go to your ManageWP dashboard and click on "Add Site" and enter your blog's URL, admin username and password. Then boom, your site appears on the dashboard. From there, you can see all your posts, plugins, themes, and so on. You can write new posts or update old ones. You can even change the theme if you want.

    One important note. If your WP installation is not in the root directory, you have to include the subdirectory it's located in when you enter your blog's URL in ManageWP. For example, if WP is actually installed in www.yourdomain.com/blog/ then that's what you have to enter as it's URL, not www.yourdomain.com. Otherwise, ManageWP won't find it and will keep telling you to install the Worker plugin and check your password info.

    Granted, I've played with it for a grand total of 10 minutes but so far I love what I see. Thanks to whoever first mentioned it!

      WP 3.0 multisite seems to work fine for me too when it comes to not having to install all the plugins on every domain, etc. I'm quite new in the "wp 3.0 multisite game", and I'm learnng something new every day.

      It seems to me though that I have to configure the plugins over and over again for every new site I install with WP 3.0 multisite. I haven't found a way to configure plugins and insert the required information like usernames, etc in something like a "masterblog", and then just make a copy of it whenever a new blog/site needs to be installed.

      After all there's a lot of configuration in WP an the WP pluggins that will be the same in every blog. Is it possible to combine wp 3.0 multisite with wp manager dx or managewp, so you get the best from both worlds?

      Yes, I'm aware of Super Admin section, and what's great about that is that you could update all of your sites with only a couple of clicks if wordpress or any of the plugins has an update. Further if there's a new plugin you want to install on your network, you only have to install it once no matter how many sites you have in your network, and then activate it for the network.

      BUT when it comes to configuration of either wordpress or pluggins, it seems to me like mentioned in my last post, that I've got go into every site one by one and configure both wordpress and the pluggins manually.

      It's this I want to overcome, because a lot of the configuration will be exactly the same on most of the sites in the network. But, of course I also want to keep the advantages of the Super Admin Section in WP 3.0 with network enabled. I want both! LOL...

        Any comments on this? Is it possible or even any point in combining wordpress network/multisite with WP managerDX? Would it be better to just go for the latest, and install the blogs in separate directories like before?

    As far as I know the WP MU feature built into wp 3.0 only works if all sites are on same hosting package.

    I spread my blogs around different hosting packages so have to use WPMDX

    I looked at this issue for myself awhile back and gave up. as several said, if you have multiple hosting packages and hosting types - there's one roadblock. I also have many, many different kinds of WP blogs to manage.

    I have almost 600 sites, 500 of them being autoblogs and not all on the same autoblogging format. Some work w/ WP 3.0+, others are only good on WP 2.8, therefore plugins are an issue. Thesis are on 1/2 and not on the other half.

    My management solution?

    If you have WPMDX you dont need the WPMU features but you could probably use them. Ask Edna the script owner, she is very helpful.
