What to do if a domain is already taken ?

So...we found a good niche but the .com, .net and .org with keyword rich domains are taken. What is better to do ?

for example:

niche about dog food

keywords: best food for your dog

bestfoodforyourdog.com not available
bestfoodforyourdog.org not available
bestfoodforyourdog.net not available

Should we register .biz, .cc , .us , .or .info ?

If not, from your experince, what is better for SEO and ranking in first page of google in a niche ?

to add: a, s, the, - , site, now ...etc

    Out of those, I prefer thebestfoodforyourdog.com. It reads as sensible English, and 'the' seems to be largely discounted when tracked for search engine results.

    However, this is still a little on the wordy side for my tastes, and I'd see if you can come up with something shorter - unless the numbers from the keyword analysis suggest that this will still be an excellent domain to go after.

    I would avoid the dashes and the other domain extensions completely.

      Dont worry to much if your domain is taken,

      One solution is that you can add an extention on to the keyword such as 'info' 'tips' 'today'

      bestfoodforyourdoginfo.com

      bestfoodforyourdogtips.com

      bestfoodforyourdogtoday.com

      or some other words you can think of, as these above red ones were just quick examples, im sure you can think of better ones. I did this and am ranking well for them keyword domains but it took time.

        For SEO purposes, a .info, or a hyphenated version of the .com/.org/.net domain-name will do just as well as anything else: its SERP's position will depend entirely on your on-page and off-page SEO, just as for any other site.

        Whether you want to base a site on a hyphenated or .info domain-name of which the unhyphenated .com version already belongs to someone else (with the prospect of losing future traffic to their site) is a whole different question. It's not something I'd willingly/knowingly do, myself.

            if the domain is taken, maybe you should get another domain that is likely similar to the one you want, or you can add some extensions to it, like tips, guide, info or anything that is good

            or if you really need badly that particular domain, maybe you should find the owner of it, and negotiate.

          Like I told you, the competition on this keyword is low. and the unhyphenated version can be easily beaten.It has few backlinks,no PR, 0 domain age etc

          Anyway, can you or someone else can answer to the second question from my previous post ?

                Sorry; I think I answered the wrong one.

                I'm not sure. My guess is that the one with the three-word keyword (which includes the two-word keyword) is better to register, to cover both; but this is only a guess - I have no personal experience of it and will be interested to see others' replies.

    Anyone who has lots of sites and has been in the SEO game for long will tell you to use hyphens, not extra words that dilute your percentage of exact match in your domain name. I'd not hesitate to register the hyphenated .com.

    The one time that may be a bad choice is if you plan to brand the name and rely on type-in traffic or things like radio ads. Hyphens will hurt you then, but otherwise, for SEO purposes, hyphenate that bad boy!

    Think how you can get key words people will be searching for.

    Adding The on front works. Ending with dogs works.

    What about, and I'm thinking you are not really talking about dog food, so what about just repeating the key words. bestfoodforyourdogbestfoodforyourdog.com then say on your site... The dog food so nice we said it twice

    Of course I'm only saying this if your name is shorter and the dog food is not really it. Once Business.com was gone, someone registered BusinessBusiness.com and businessbusinessbusiness.com is taken and 4x is also taken. The one available now is and I don't feel like typing it, but, it's business 5 times.com

    If you want to obsess over keyword domains, just use hyphens. Nobody is going to do a direct visit anyway, all your traffic will come from SERPs.

    try to use hyphens between words.
    Note that there should not be more than 2 hyphens.
    More than 2 would make it look unprofessional.

    A .info will do. Trust it doesn't matter if you use a .com or a .info when you have good content on your website. Add a lot of backlinks. I myself had a .info for a low competitive niche and I managed to get to the top 5. So don't worry if its a .com or.info

    1)Can I use hyphens like this ?

    2) I found a 2 words keyword with about 400 searches/day
    The .com is taken but I can use hyphens. I tried to add another word to the main keyword and I found a 3 words keyword with about 150 searches/day. very low competition on the both keywords

    I want that my main keyword to be the one with 400 searches/day and with 2 words. My question is: It's recommended to register the domain with the second keyword (the one with 3 words and 150 searches)? because that keyword contain the initial keyword + another word...

    If yes, I cannot register word1word2word3.com/org/net and I cannot register word1-word2-word3.com but I can register word1word2-word3.com (with only one hyphen) Is this good for google ?

    If the domain is taken just add a word to the end like:

    info
    blog
    review
    today
    daily etc

    Having said that what matters most is the ON-Page and OFF-Page SEO of your website.

      A word of caution on hyphens from a newbie.

      What works today, can easily not work tomorrow if g88gle
      doesn't want it to work.

      Just imagine if G decides, that all the sites using hyphens
      are set up for the sole purpose of SEO and therefore do not
      hold the same value. What than?

    For me I would just try the less hyphens to add and register the domain name. The moment you have the domain name what counts more for ranking is your backlinks value.

    My suggestion is also the same as others who said to use hyphens. I'm also doing a lot of SEO works myself and using hyphens is better than using extra or additional words.

      Go for the long tail and a .com is always best. I'd take a hyphen over a .net or .org and I'd only use .info if I do a direct link.
