Cool New 'Trick' For Video & Article Marketers

by Zeus66
20 replies
I've been playing around with ways to boost rankings of my YouTube videos at Google without having to get a ton of backlinks, and I may have discovered something interesting. Before you watch the video, understand that I have not tested this extensively with video and not at all with articles. Don't take what you're about to see as gospel truth, ok? But I wanted to share it with everyone in the hopes that if enough people test it we might determine if it's a quirk or if there really is something to this. So, without further ado...

Thx a mil - Sometimes ordinary things is just right under our noses and we don't realize it. Simple tweaks can make a lot of difference in your rankings. I was looking at the related searches and wanted to use it but thought - hell no - I'm only a rookie just do what the guru's say.

Sweet, John. I'm guessing it's no fluke. It's probably going to work better in some niches than others, depending on the competition. Nice find!

when you add tags do you put any punctunation between them?

If not, how would it know the difference between a single word tag and a two word tag?

      Thanks, ron

At YouTube, you put tags that consist of more than one word in quotation marks. Single words you just type in normally. And you use spaces between, not commas.

Great advice. It is also good to put these related keywords (related according to google) in the tags of any web property from articles, videos, websites, facebook pages, etc. I have done something very similar to this myself for my offline clients and a few of my own sites with a noticeable improvement in ranking.

Something tells me this is just a fluke. Maybe just hitting the "update" without doing anything else would have done the same thing. Videos disappear and reappear all the time with Google. What would be more interesting to me is if his video now appeared when someone searched one of the related terms he added. I have even more doubts about it working with articles. I can't believe just adding tons of keywords would assist in rankings - I thought it actually hurt on some occassions.

Well they OP has mentioned that " Don't take what you're about to see as gospel truth, ok?" in his initial post

So it's up to you to stick with your belief.

      However..

Maybe if you try it on your own and found similar positive results then you can change your belief that "just adding tons of keywords would ACTUALLY assist in rankings"

    Hey John..

Thanks for the info and if you've tried GOOGLE'S wonder wheel, it will give you the same keywords that are given at the bottom at the 1st page for the main keyword,..

    Here's an example..

By the way thanks for your effort man Really appreciate your contribution here

    ebizman87,

Yes, in the video I mention that the Wonder Wheel shows the identical phrases as the Related Searches area. LOL So now this thread has a video AND a pictorial demonstration of that fact. Thank you!

      John John John...

Don't you know you're supposed to run an extended test to prove validity (if any) and then sell your findings (and your supporting proof) for $47 or more?

Awesome bit of info. Even if it's just a coincidence, there is an obvious the benefit to adding those specific tags. You've got some light bulbs popping off in my head... Thanks.

I don't know if you are right or wrong, but in any case it is a great approach to help Google understand what your video is about, and what related searches are.

    Yukon,

That could be true about any change bumping the video back up. It's not a very competitive keyword being targeted there, after all. I'll test this some more and see what's what.
