I happened onto something in Google that I think is REALLY COOL!

Here's something I noticed while doing a Google News search today. It so happens that I was looking for news on the subject of "wine". So I went to Google News and searched for the word "wine". Here's a link:

Google News

Well, for the first time ever, I noticed something interesting on the left menu:

I decided to click on it, and low and behold in just a matter of moments, I had a PDF in front of me with a complete article from the NY Times, May 4, 1922. Here it is:

10,000 CHEER PLEAS FOR BEER AND WINE

Amazing!

This may not be news to some of you, but this is something that was brand new to me. And of course, with my wind working as it always does, I start to immediately wonder: is there a marketing opportunity with these sorts of historical news searches?

I've gone back and read old newspapers from those times on Google News before as well. It's really interesting, I think, to see how the way news was written changed over time.

If I'm not mistaken something that old would be public domain since any copyright would be out of date.

Yes there is....I do not know all of the details (specific to dates)

But any book or publication prior to 1920, 60 or something like that
is not copyrighted any more -or is pre copyright laws and is public domain

Check those dates, find a book or publication specific to a niche...buy it on ebay for like $3 bucks.

Next, take it to someone who will type it into a doc for you (or do it yourself) and you now have a digital product.

Then pay someone to read the book and record it. Obviously you will want to find someone who has a radio quaility voice....radio stations are good for this. Now you have an even more valuable Audio product.

    Some some idea;s

    Sean
PS...you would need to investigate a bit further and confirm accuracy of pre-copyright laws. But it is all fair game prior to that date. And I am pretty sure it is later than 1920

Now those are some sexy ideas! Think I might give this a try when I need additional content, and variations. Thanks.

    Hi faxinator,

That's something called the "Public Domain" and you can use the
content freely - unless someone can pull up the definition to
    prove otherwise.

One way you can use these Public Domain material is to setup
blogs and copy-and-paste the articles in them. There's no
copyright issue since it's been released into the Public Domain.

In fact, I've known of several blogs that were about dogs and
all the content came from these Public Domain material that
still prove to be relevant to this day (dogs don't change all
that much - except maybe with Paris Hilton)

The blog will have already proven articles that provide top-notch
    information.

    Hope this helps.

I believe it is anything older then 1964...
Plus...not everything ends up public domain if the owner updates the copyright...just very few do...almost none do actually.

Yup. I have seen people set up entire businesses around public domain stuff -- like around The Science of Getting Rich.

Of course you can always rewrite public domain content and make it your own... I know this one guy who does rewrites really well
