Questions about using Easy Video Player with Amazon S3 please...

Hi,

I just opened an Amazon S3 account and installed Easy Video Player and have some questions please...

1) When I installed EVP it automatically created a bucket within my S3 account that looks like this:

evp-sdlkfjsldkfjsldkfjsdfsdferwersldsdlkfj

What is the purpose for that 'evp' bucket as opposed to creating my own buckets?2) Can I store videos in the 'evp' bucket that I do not want to add any of the EVP features to, like the player, skins etc? The reason I'm asking is because I have a video that is supposed to appear to be a live webinar and I won't need to use the EVP Flowplayer or choose colors or do anything to that video...for that one particular video. However, for ease of uploading, I might still want to upload the video from within EVP.

3) Can I create other buckets OUTSIDE of the 'evp' bucket and still access and modify them within EVP - or must ALL video files I want to modify within EVP go into the existing 'evp' bucket?

4) For the sake of keeping my videos organized in my S3 account, is there any problem with creating folders in a bucket for each of my domains that I have videos for...and even sub-folders within those folders?

Thanks very much.
Steve

Josh Bartlett is a Warrior, so maybe he can answer better, but here's what I know from using it...

    1) EVP stores all of the S3 hosted videos in one bucket, which it creates automatically when you opt to use this feature.

    2) If you don't want to have the EVP type player for a video, I would suggest you simply create your own bucket outside of EVP (you can do this directly from the Amazon S3 site using the tools on that site). You would just need to use some other way to view the video. I actually create a web page, embed the video, then upload all of it to S3. Then simply send people to the web page...but they will see the S3 link that way.

    3) Inside EVP you can simply "import" videos from any other bucket. But it simply copies them over into the EVP bucket that was created.

    4) Inside EVP you can organize your videos by creating folders. There is that option under the "Your Files" area. Just create as many folders as you want and move your videos as required.

    Hope this helps.

Yes this helps and thanks for taking the time Mike.

Got a few more por favor...

      1) Can you create sub-folders (folders inside of folders) in EVP?

      2) How come I don't see the folders I create in EVP in my S3 account? Hmmm, I'll have to check but maybe those EVP created folders are in my cpanel??

      3) Is it possible to upload a video file with EVP but to NOT use EVP's player, etc. just so you can use EVP's statistics? Just asking because I have a couple videos that I want to appear as live webinars so the only thing for those two videos I want to use in EVP would be their statistics.

      4) If #3 does not work (use EVP's stats without using Flowplayer, etc.) does anyone know of something I can use that would enable similar stats for these two videos as EVP does?

      Thanks again!

    Hi Steve,

    1) I didn't see a way to add sub folders. Personally I don't think it's really necessary as you can simply create folders and name them accordingly.

For example, if you wanted to make a main folder called "Fitness Videos" then sub folders with different types of exercises, then all you really need to do is simply name folders like "Fitness Abs", "Fitness Legs", and so on.

    2) You won't see folders because I believe it's not REALLY creating folders. Just references of sorts in an XML file. Keep in mind that the ONLY reason to create these folders is to sort of organize your videos. Otherwise you'd have one LONG list of videos. Folders are not actually necessary.

The last two I can't really answer, sorry. I never thought of trying to use the stats features without actually using EVP to show the videos. My ASSUMPTION is no. But that would be a question for Josh

I'd like to be able to see statistics for my NON-EVP videos like: traffic sources, country, time they started viewing video, time they bailed, sales & conversions. Do you know if Google Analytics can do all of that?
