19 Youtube Tricks, Do You Know Any More? (Lets make it all about Youtube thread)

I want to share some of the tricks that I've learned about Youtube.(Some of my tricks might now seem like tricks to most people, but I'll share it anyway.)

1. Youtube keyword tool https://ads.youtube.com/keyword_tool

2. Building back links to your videos help your videos ranking. Submit to social media such as digg, and reddit. Twitt about the video. It will get indexed very fast. Also find relevant questions on yahoo answers and past your video in the resource box. This worked really well for me in the past.

3. Number of user comments you get helps your video ranking. The best way to get comments is to pay people on Mechanical Turk to view your video and ask them to comment. Also you can use a few fake accounts to post controversial comments, causing others to engage in the discussion. If the video itself is controversial people will be more likely to comment.

4. Volume of views your video gets improves its ranking. Once again use Mechanical Turk to get you started, as well as Social Media will help you bump up the count. Additionally you can embed your video to your website, set it to autoplay and drive a very cheap adwords traffic to that page.

4. Using tags that google finds relevant helps your video ranking. Use google adwords tool, as well as the search for your keywords in google, then just pick up the bold ones as your tags, google suggest, commonly misspelled words etc. Use google suggest ETC. The regular keyword research stuff.

5. Using same tags as another popular video in your niche. It will increase your chances of showing up as a related video.

6. Using your keywords in your description. (Many people overlook this step, but google does check this as well).

7. Make sure that you have an attention gripping picture as your thumbnail. Google picks up the middle frame as your thumbnail, so just plan for the most interesting picture to be exactly in the middle of your video.

8. Use an unique tag in all your videos (i.e. I use feedtherightwolf) to increase chances of your other videos showing up as related videos for each other.

9. Post video responses to other popular videos in your niche. You can either use existing videos, or create specific one just for that purpose. (Note you can only use 1 video as 1 response. I remember long time ago, I've spent a day posting same video as a video response to 20 different videos, only to find out that every time I reposted it, it was removed from the previous video and posted on a new one).

10. Comment on other people'c channels, it will provide a follow link to your channel.

11. Embed your video on other people Myspace accounts (and other site's) as a comment. It will provide a link, and will increase your view's count.

12. Make a post on forum ( like this one) with your video and this will also increase your view count.

13. Watch the news or google trends closely for something related to your niche. And create a video targeting the new keywords, knowing that soon people will be searching for this stuff. Then you will be likely to show up both in Google search and Google video search.

14. Make a parody of already popular Youtube video, use same tags title etc.

15. Use tube mogul's free account and upload your video to bunch of other free networks. Many time I get my videos showing up in Google video search that I've uploaded to Dailymotion or other networks, while it does not rank high on Youtube.

16. Keep your videos short (something I fail at all the time), and keep the images moving often. People's attention span is very short these days.

17. Created videos answering some of the most frequent questions asked in your niche on yahoo answers. You can also get ideas from long tail keywords from your favorite keyword tool.

18. Contact people with popular videos in your niche and try to pay them for link to your product/channel in their description, or at least get them to approve your video response to be posted on their video.

19. Be active. Make friends with other people, subscribe to other people, comment on their videos, and they might return the favor.

Its all I can think of right now. If I'll think of something else I'll add it later.

Do you know any tricks that I've missed?

This one always works for me. Whenever I start a new YouTube channel, I always post my first video as a response to a popular video, and it definitely helps bring in those views and first subscribers.

Good list, I can't think of any more!!

Just collect as much "Youtuber ID account" as you want and copy those ID to a text pad or anything that you write and save on.

After that, go to your account and choose "Compose" a message. Then, copy every ID that you have been collecting earlier to the "To:" box then write a message that will attract the people to your site.

Wait for a few days to let them check their mail. You are taking a lot of profit.
Maybe I'm wrong, but that sure sounds a lot like spamming to me...

The video is #1 in YT search for my keyword, & also #1 in the Google SERPs, & shows for the image thumbnail, #1 in Google video search.

          It's been #1 for over a year.

The video has zero comments on YT, everyone has been posting their comments on my blog post (over 100 comments).

Video has almost 2k views, which isn't much at all for a YT video that ranks #1.

Most of the ranking power is in the YT title (keywords), the YT title that you give your video is in <h1> tags.

My video is simply two keywords "keyword1 keyword2".
Well this doesn't necessarily mean that the other 2 statements were wrong just because something else works for you.

I've noticed on my own videos that after I increased the # of comments and views, my videos began to show up when I search for the keywords that I've put in the title.

May be increased number of comments caused google to index my video faster? I don't know. But I don't think it will hurt to do it.

Just a tip to add (especially for the future), use the closed captioning feature on your YouTube videos, the reason (and this is from an article on ReelSEO.com),

In fact, YES – both Google and YouTube ARE indexing videos for text that is contained within closed captions and subtitles.
Just something else to add to your video SEO checklist.

BTW, here's a link to the article at ReelSEO.com, In-Depth Look At YouTube Closed Captions, SEO and Indexing

I found this out by accident

If you create your own new word (keyword/tag), & you use that same new tag on every single one of your YT videos, YT will put most of your own related videos in the right sidebar under the video "Suggestions".

So now you have a very good chance of including 20 of your own videos in front of everyone that is viewing any single one of your own videos.

Again I'll use the same example video link I posted above. Look at how this guy has a very unique YT tag (seansuth).

Now look at all the suggested videos in the right sidebar, most of them are from the same guy.

The reason this works is because nobody else has a clue what the heck the tag/keyword (seansuth) is, or that the keyword exist at all.

This can also work against your own competition. Look at your competition & see If they have a unique keyword/tag, then add the same tag to your video.

That way If someone is watching your competitions video, your video will be in the right sidebar, of your competitions video.
      is that not no:8??

      8. Use an unique tag in all your videos (i.e. I use feedtherightwolf) to increase chances of your other videos showing up as related videos for each other.

    @AjaTrinidad

I recently started thinking about adding closed captioning to my videos. Do you think it's helpful to add them to ALL of your videos?
I know it can be a pain to add closed captioning, especially if you have a video that is several minutes long, but I would say yes it would be helpful to add them to all your videos, especially ones that are "slide show based," where you see PowerPoint slides with text on them and some music in the background.

The reason I say that for video articles is because for a long time now Google/YouTube has been working to recognize the audio in videos so if you are narrating, one day YouTube will be able to pick up on what you say; but if there is no speech in the audio, using the captioning feature should be very helpful to you.

If you are using Youtube for IM then make sure channel is focused around 1 niche and 1 niche only. Do NOT upload any other irrelevant videos.

Once you upload 2 videos of the same lSI relevance, your chance to get ranked well for your keywords will go up by around 42%. Notice it's a % and it will be relative to your markets competition.

Happy to give you guys that one

Probably post is as a video reply to other popular videos would be the best bet. May be making friends with people who post similar videos. Looking at the tags that attract viewers who might enjoy the same kind of music, and using them as tags and keywords in your description.

      Anybody else?

      Hey There,

Google is using speech to text, so try to use your keywords there or target (tag) keywords used in the video.

I use Traffic Geyser instead of Tube Mogul. I also submit to YouTube first before sending to others. If I am trying to get Google Page One on a certain keyword, I will take the top 10 organic results and put them in a notepad, clean it up and add those keywords to the very bottom of YouTube description only.

Lol, thanks for the advice. I am mainly here to learn, but I figured I would put my links in the signature for some back-linking (I know this forum is not related to my niche but its better than nothing).

An intriguing set of suggestions. I really like some of them. I really hate some of them, but that's what makes horse races, right?

There is one more thing you can do that no one has suggested yet.

Make a good video. I think some of us put that one out of our minds because we doubt we can do it. But we can. And it makes a huge difference!

You can learn how inside a brief video on YouTube called:

"How to Film Yourself Without Shooting Yourself in the Foot"

Sorry, I can't link to it yet in this forum but the title will get you there.

Very interesting and educational thread. Now for some clarification.
Is there any difference between "captions" and "closed captions"?
What is the simplest way to add a caption (not a voice track) to a Youtube video?
Can someone post a link to an EZ guide on how to do this?
    TIA

    Edit: I found it -
