Which converts better? Email opt-in vs "Join my free membership" to get Free items

I'm making a membership site, but the main page is only a squeeze page/free offer. The goal is for them to become free members of the site.

They get a lot of free items up front as free members. I need them to experience what it's like to be a member and downloading the items. The free download links are right next to a LOT of other products they can unlock for 1 low price.

The site is a Lifetime membership get everything we have for 1 low price type of site.

On the squeeze page, should I use:

1. Email opt-in (and give the free stuff w/o joining)?

2. Email opt-in (then tell them they need to join first)?

3. "Sign up for a free membership"? (may not convert as well; although there are only 2 more line to fill where they choose a password). The free membership also ops them in to my list.

Which may convert better?
Which would you be more comfortable with?

Forgot to mention that joining the membership also adds them to my list.

For the niche I'm in, this model has been done before. I know of a handful of sites doing the same thing. And high in Clickbank affiliate stats. But they don't use any free offers upfront.

Stop giving away too much upfront. Give back in the backend after the sign up to your list through follow ups. Your goal is to not get the sale right away but to warm them up for future purchases(not one but many)...

Okay I'm not giving out a TON, just a lot... It's a lifetime membership single payment site. Later on I can always change the membership price or separate things into smaller packages. I will also upsell and cross sell to other sites I have, and affiliate products. I know all about not giving away too much free stuff, and continuity. But this is a special niche where this is a proven model.

Listen up, you will get bombarded with opinions on the forum. Just try it out for yourself and see/compare the results.

Opinions don't matter. Try them both and see which works best. Testing is the ONLY way you'll know which way works better.

I see, I see. I used the wrong words. By "opinion" I really meant "based on your experiences"...

    Really simple.

Split test your three options. You'll soon find out which is the more successful option.

Don't waste too much time in here asking us. We can't no what will work best for you. You have to test the options for yourself.

    Go get 'em!

no one can tell you this... if they do they're probably full of it.

YOU MUST TEST IT FOR YOURSELF.

    run website optimizer

    send traffic to the pages

let IT tell you which one works best for YOUR traffic.

I'm testing but my solution was to use an email opt-in then the confirmation link takes them to the free registration page.
