News, Glossary and copyright issue

Hi Guy

I am newbie, still learning a lot of thing. I am plan to put News and Glossary section for my niche. May i know what are the rules i need to follow in order to protect my myself from copyright issue.

Can i just grab the news from some authorize website, publish and link back to the site? do i need to email and inform the website owner? what is the best way to go about this?
