YouTube videos playing embedded on iPhone?

I recently saw a Youtube video embedded in
a website and -- with a touch of a finger on an
iPhone or iPad -- the video played right in the website
without having to launch the external player.

I just embedded a video into a page and tried
it myself....but the iPhone is still causing the
video to launch in the external YouTube app.

Anyone know how to get the vid to play right
in the page on an iPhone?

Thanks!
Tony

I don't think we understand the connection you're trying to make between the website and the iPhone. Is all of this happening on the iPhone?

      Hey Tony,

I just finished (as of an hour ago) an little helpful app that will spit out the code you need to display video on the iPad/iPhone.

It actually works across all platforms.

The videos, however, aren't YouTube videos. They need to be hosted elsewhere.

Anyhow, if you're interested, PM me and I'll get you the info.

      All the best,

        Hi Big Squid,

How are you? I cannot PM you since I have no posts here or I would have but I will try and describe to you my current situation...

I just read your post today about playing embedded videos on iPhone and I was wondering if you could help me, please and thank-you.

I have numerous videos hosted on my Amazon S3 account that my users can play on my website no problem with a simple click and stream immediately. Most of my videos are FLV's and some are MP4's, however my problem is if I or any other user wants to play my website videos on their iPhone, it wont work because of the whole Apple doesn't support Flash format as you know already.

So after doing a search here on the WF I found this post...YouTube videos playing embedded on iPhone?...and your reply and I think you have the solution that I need.

I was wondering if you could help me out, please and thank-you? Can you please PM or let me know of another way I can contact you, I can also give you my phone number if you like.

        Thanks again and talk soon,

        Enormous

Yes - what he's saying is......

'Normally' to view a flash video like those on Youtube an iphone needs to run up it's Youtube video player app - because the idevices don't natively support flash videos.

But in this case he saw a Youtube video on a website play right in the web browser of the iphone - this is not normally possible so he's wondering what was done to make it happen.

Google is testing (and will be rolling out soon) an iframed embed for YouTube videos, which is specifically for mobile and iPhones/iPads.

It's most likely the site you were able to watch the video play had the iframe code, but you might want to make sure.

    Hope that helps.
