split testing question

Hi,

I have two questions about split testing, hopefully somebody more experienced gives me some hints.

Question1:
Let's say I have product Abc and I want to sell it on domain abc.com

What I don't understand is this - the page has to be online (with ordering, downloads, etc.) for split tests.
Once I finish with split tests, should I disable it to prelaunch mode, where ordering is not allowed?
There will be still some visitors coming to the website, and suddenly they will be not able to order.

Or if I want to split test the price - I imagine it could create big problems if customers somehow find out they were buying the product at different price.

I'm not sure if I should just ignore these problems or is there some smarter way to do split tests?

Question2:
Which traffic source should I use for split testing? PPC only, or some other traffic?
My product is a forex system.

thanks in advance for answers,

Mark

From a similar thread I made.

I would say you may look at CPM, cost is lower than PPC, Adwords etc.

So in each test I am just testing ONE THING per test/ per time.

This helps me fine tune a squeeze page to get the best conversion it can get. I am going to make this into a more detailed thread soon, so that others can use this.

      Mark,

Some of the paid multi-variate testing tools on the market allow you to do price testing (mine does). You can also use a page rotator to test different salesletters that have different offers.

Worst case... you refund the difference and tell the buyer that you are doing price testing to determine what price point converts better (it's not always the lowest one).

You can test by traffic source if you want but to be honest, if you're new to testing then I'd suggest just getting started with testing and worry about traffic sources later. You can always set up different landing pages for each traffic source to test at.

      Hope that helps,

      Mike

    Hello Mark,

There are a number of points you may want to think about. First,
though, I would encourage you to not rush things, if possible.

Good suggestions mentioned above. I believe George was referring
to media buying when he said CPM. That is an alternative, and you
can easily stop your campaign(s) when you want. Of course you
can do that with PPC as well.

I do not know which traffic source is best for your market. However
with media buys I would think you could buy traffic on relevant sites
that should/could have more targeted traffic for the Forex market.

You can conceivably have multiple campaigns at different sites and
test more if you don't want to use multivariate for whatever reason.

Also, with media buys you can easily use a rotator script for split
    testing.

As Mike mentioned, depending on your knowledge and resources you
may not want to learn about media buying just to do your testing. But
it is worth learning, anyway, in my opinion. There was a good WSO some
months ago, and I don't remember the person's name, but it was about
media buying. He also went into great detail about using a free script, the
name I cannot remember, and showed you how to configure it for banner
rotating to optimize click thru's, etc. You don't have to do that, but the
    info was in there.

If I remember it I'll post it.

    Hope that helps.

    Ken
